ive been dependent on opiates, any kind. ive been snorting 90-270(on the higher end for a while now) mgs a day now for at least 6 solid months and its time for me to stop. monday day was my last dose and on tuesday night at 730 was 34 hours and i cracked. I have never felt so bad. I was wondering if i set myself back to sqaure one or not. i have had the feeling of wanting to crawl out of my skin, chop your arms and legs off, hot/cold flashes, body sweats and anxiety through the roof. I barely did any- enough to cut the severity of the dt's. I was trying to figure out if there was a "good" way to ween yourself off. i have also been told to be careful going cold turkey. looking for help and advise. thanks!

no matter how you detox, opiate w/d is fucking bad. What helped me, is sleep aids. i always had trouble falling asleep, and so will you.
also, keep advil on hand..that will help a small bit with pains your gonna have.

Have you looked into suboxone/methadone? that helps a lot.

also weening is a choice, but i found it a lot easier to quit if you just stop cold turkey. having it in my face everyday, and having to rationalize how much to use everyday..i couldnt do it..i end up doing more than im supposed to then im right back on the wagon.

Good luck with your quest to be clean man, lot of respect. Keep on it dont give in

Tapering can mitigate a lot of the pain, but it hosts its own set of problems. Personally, as an addict, I am hard-pressed to control my use (the reason I became an addict from the start) and having a supply on hand almost ensures I will consume it outside of the bounds of a taper. Moreover, I acquire my drugs illegally, which means I have to continually submerge myself in the questionable elements found in the drug culture to continue my taper. I have enough of a challenge using something as innocuous as suboxone appropriately, so tapering on my DOCs quickly excused itself from my list of strategies.

Perhaps you can keep yourself well until you can find a suboxone doctor who will help you with the kick and maybe afford you some sleep aids. Like opium stated, sleep is one of the foremost challenges in my kicks - lying in bed kicking, tossing, and turning all night, only to be greeted by the dread sunlight and being unable to crawl to the shower and change my boxers, or even brush my teeth. I'm on day 2 myself right now, and thankfully I have some suboxone. Outside of that, try loperamide (Imodium AD). It is an OTC w/ opiate action (which doesn't cross the BBB) which will, I find, notably minimize the severity of opiate/opioid w/d.

Best of luck, and know you can do this. Many on this site have.

thank u guys for your help! this has been the hardest thing i have ever had to do and hearing other people who have gone/going through it makes it easier for me. i appreciate your replys!

thanks again,
E;)

I am a long time user and i had tried everything to quit including methadone and had no success with anything i eventually had to just buckle down and detox i didn't use sleep aids or weed or anything but i did have seroquel. Quitting is a personal thing and whatever works for you is best but sometimes you just gotta man up, speaking from 13 months clean.

Hey Louie, how you doing?

If symptoms are so severe as to make CT impossible, you could do a VERY rapid taper with Codeine Phosphate if you dose it right over the withdrawal period. I used it coming off of a long-term H habit a coupla times and it made it very bearable. I dunno which opiate in your case so your timescale and mileage may vary, but I started low dose day 1, upped dose a little day 2 and again day 3 as withdrawal peaked to a max dose of 240mg / day IIRC, then cut dose hard and fast halving dose every day over days 4/5/6 aiming to be taking nothing day 7. The idea is you take just enough to cut the very worst symptoms, without dosing so high as to interfere with withdrawal or prolong the detox. Course it will inevitably slow the detox to some extent cos you're trading comfort for speed, and you're better doing it without an opiate. Be sure to CWE if you use OTC pain meds as a codeine source won't you!

Many recommend Loperamide. Never used it, meant to be excellent for relieving the worst symptoms. Possibly more so than the codeine I've just recommended. Apart from that, a long hot bath with a few drops of Lavender essential oil was a constant source of immediate relief, really eased the cramping and restless leg stuff, the lavendar oil being believe it or not a proven aid to sleep. The half hour or so relief I got was often enough to nod off when otherwise sleep would not have come. Try to eat as much as possible and be sure to keep hydrated, especially if you're strugling to keep anything in.

Congrats on your decision to stop Louie. I wish you well, in every sense of the word. Ride that shit out. It WILL pass. :) From one ex-addict to a soon to be one, I wish you the absolute best of luck! Keep us updated how you're doing. If it starts feeling like it's too much and you need to bail plenty here can advise on OTC stuff that can really help moderate the worst of it without you needing to score so keep talking to us, yeah, let us know how you're doing?
