depression

I know a girl that is 25yrs old & has one of the best bodies I have ever seen on a girl, she is also very pretty in the face.....anyway, she has a 4 yr old child & doesnt get any support for this child, she moves from place to place every 3 months because she doesnt have enough money to pay her rent because of her drug use.

Also, she escorts on the side & its not because she loves sex. Ive seen some of the guys shes had sex for money & I just cant believe why she would stoop this low but when you're in depression like her, only thing that matters is money & drugs. By her looks, she could be a model in my eyes but isnt very educated, so is she a product of her environment which would be the reasons of her depressions? I mean, if this young & beautiful lady grew up in & around loving parents with the proper education & had plenty of money, would she be in this spot?

Like the guy above me mentioned, its the issues &/or concerns from the situations you have been in or are engaging in at this moment that can put you in a depressive mode & put you on the rode to disaster.

Asclepius, though perhaps maybe off topic, I really enjoyed reading your thoughts and knowledge about those with mental illnesses previous roles in society. Reminds me of a line in a song, "Preachers on the podium speaking to saints, prophets on the sidewalk begging for change." It's so true and even sadder that our society holds no place for schizophrenics, who are likely to be unable to care for themselves, stop taking medications and be left to suffer on the streets.

Anyway, back on topic, or moreso, I think a lot of antidepressant medication helps initially, maybe, but is not a long term solution. And yes, I think it can be overcome without the use of pharmaceuticals via therapy, a change in lifestyle or a simple change in perspective and outlook on life. Time also helps, as you learn to deal with the problems that afflict you and are able to solve them in a manner best suited to your needs. So long as the manner is healthy and does not have negative consequences.

I am rambling. I don't think I really answered the question. Oh well, some input at any rate.

Thee main thing is, if you havent been in someones shoes, or walked with them in their crazy & wild days, you know nothing of the pain each persons is burdened with so anything we say in these threads has more bearing in comforting someone more than showing them a cure for their problems & depression.

Imo, if someone can find any way to make that depression go away, if not just for little while, they have accomplished more on their own than alot of these arrogant doctors have which care more about their golf membership that they do about any of their patients.

I've found that there are endless cycles of emotion amongst most if not all human beings. myself included. there are divine, euphoric highs, crippling, earth-shattering lows, and an immeasurable array of feelings in between. i've very much come to terms with the label of depression, but that is all the merit i will give said "disorder."

I don't believe in disorders, I don't believe in depression, and I am very unconfident that SSRIs, therapy, or even exercise alone can cure the problems I face. If the problem comes from within, so will the solution,
