I'm unsure of whether or not this belongs on this website, but where there are drug users there are sure to be those who suffer from psychopathy, sociopathy, and/or anti-social personality disorder.

While these three terms, technically speaking, have slight distinctions, I consider the differences to be minute and will lump the three under the one general term I feel most comfortable with, which is "psychopathy."

Over the years I have been labeled, by therapists, psychologists, parents, friends, girlfriends, and even the dean of men at my high school, a psychopath so many times that I eventually believed myself to be one despite the fact that I suffer from what my psychiatrist calls Major Depressive Disorder and my father calls "being a whiny little bitch." I always held these two things, depression and psychopathy, to be incompatible with one another, and that is the topic of this discussion.

Now that I have grown older, however, I have noticed myself maturing, changing, and treating others with more value without thinking about it.

Ever since I was labeled a psychopath by my first girlfriend (for setting fire to her boyfriend's house after she dumped me in 8th grade) I have developed a great interest in the subject and have, thus, bought numerous books on psychopaths, read scholarly articles, and even developed my own theories concerning "psychopaths" (I put psychopaths in quotations because I believe everyone is, on some level, a psychopath who is concerned only with their own well being) and social morality. While my theories are, for the most part, off topic, I would like to ask the general community for their opinions concerning depression in psychopaths.

I, by no means, am well versed in psychology and only have a general knowledge from various intro level Psych courses from college and, of course, a basic understanding of human nature from my own research and my (pridefully held) ability to manipulate people.

In your opinion, preferable backed up with research, is it possible for a psychopath to feel legitimate depression?

(Sorry for the long intro, I am currently on a moderate dose of adderall and am feeling talkative, I will edit out the superfluous material if you feel it will help target the discussion)

I am also interested in psychopathy. I wrote this long ass paper on it for an English assignment that was total shit, but I learned a lot through research. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that there is a strong negative correlation between depression and psychopathy. I honestly have no clue where I read that, but psychopaths generally have very high self-esteem.

Yes, psychopaths can suffer from depression. I thought the primary thing which distinguished them from others was they had no empathy?
