Deplin can be used in people who suffer from depression and are taking antidepressants that don't seem to be working too well. Some reasons for antidepressants not working so well is that some people with depression suffer from a form of folic acid deficiency where their body does not metabolize enough folic acid into Deplin, or L-Methylfolate. L-Methylfolate is the only form of folic acid that breaks the blood-brain barrier. What it does is it creates more neurotransmitters that lead to the serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine receptors. Since most antidepressants effect serotonin and/or norepinephrine and sometimes the dopamine receptors, Deplin creates more neurotransmitters so your receptors can take in more of the antidepressant(s) you are on. Hope this helps! Sorry if not, it's my first post!

Hmm, I've never heard of this. Interesting idea though. It makes sense that this would help people with major depressive d/o who never get "highs"(happy).
I gotta read up on this a bit. Is anyone taking this? Does it help?
I was on the ability a few years ago too and it did the same thing, kinda like restlessness. It made me miserable so I discontinued it. None of these psych meds seem to help me at all, it really sucks. I know a few people that swear by them, they went from total shut ins to going about they're life with the meds, it's amazing to see but I get jelous lol. All I get are months of side effects, and just a numb feeling. Hopefully there's something to this folic acid stuff...

I am currently prescribed Deplin 15 mg. It also comes in one other strength which is 7.5 mg. It's funny that you mentioned Abilify because that's what I was on before I switched to Deplin. The Abilify didn't seem to help at all and I also had some pretty bad side effects from it. I've been on Deplin for about a year now and it is way better than the Abilify with very little to no side effects. The only downside is that my insurance didn't cover it. But as I see it so far it is well worth it.

Great to hear a positive review, thx tdog. Might have to ask about this one when I get back into treatment...
