I was wondering where different people draw the line between dependence and addiction. For instance, I wouldn't consider someone who takes 4mg xanax daily for severe panic disorder to be a drug addict. On the other hand, I think everyone would agree that taking 100mg of Adderall daily to "treat" mild ADD is an addiction. What about someone who goes to rehab for heroin and winds up on methadone maintenance for life? Would you consider them an addict or simply dependent? Does it make a difference?
