So I've got to go to the dentist tomorrow and I reckon they're going to pull a tooth out.

So let's get straight to the point.

Does anybody know what you tend to receive from a dentist drugs wise? Do they give you benzos?

Only thing I've got to look forward to here.

Jesus christ, well that's my day ruined.

Coming purely from the position that I don't want to suffer now - I take it you get some kind of aesthetic?

Tomorrow's going to be the pits.

Yeah few shots of aesthetic, i had a wisdom tooth snap in half and had to find a dentist, by the time i had actually signed up to one the pain was gone after two weeks of agony, went to hospital too wouldn't do shit gave me some shitty antibiotics.
then the women says "oh i might not be able to get it out".

i got a sticker after it anyway so kinda made it worth it

Don't they give a script for higher strength codeine pills when you get teeth pulled?
They need to do it like over in the US and send you home with a bucket full of Oxycodone. 8)

I still remember the day the dentist stopped giving me stickers when I was a kid.

I decided to take one anyway and my mam shouted at me, then the dentist looked at me like I was such a piece of shit.

I never take a sticker now.

No, dhc if pleaded for. Oxycodone is unheard of here practically.

What you do is, you go in a week in advance & bitch about how "freaked out" the dentist makes you feel, then they give you a script for ONE 2mg Valium tab which you pay prescription for (if you're stupid) & take on the morning of the appointment. Woo.

edit- as usual, I have some Goddamned hair-raising, sphinter-weakening, shit-scaring dentist tales & shall save for another time, coz the OP probably does not need to hear them... I fucking HATE the dentist, & I always will. The only good reason to go to the dentist is if you're in pain & you are guarran-fucking-teed to have it alleviated by the visit. No other logical reason to actually visit a dentist willingly exists, in my opinion.

Not even DHC here. Nothing for pulled teeth - just advised to take ibuprofen when you get home and not to eat for four hours. Must admit I don't have an issue with that either cos unless you have a butcher for a dentist it shouldn't be painful. You're anaesthetised for the extraction and by the time that wears off it's a bit of throbbing at worst. Not even that usually. (Have had all wisdom teeth pulled and got another extraction due at the end of the month so am quite familiar with extractions - they really don't hurt at all)

I'm quite interested to hear any dentist tales, no matter how dark!

Let this be a thread for all and any dentist related capers.

quite normal. The only upside to being drilled & filled with NO ANESTHETIC was that, at least I had the hot, blonde receptionist helping the nurse & my mum hold me down while I screamed as the dentist tortured me.

They'd introduced this new thing, very clever & advanced, that supplied laughing gas (the one other upside to dentistry!) through two pronged, nasal aplicators, instead of the usual gas mask treatment. This meant, quite logically, that one might continue to draw the pain relieving gas even while the dentish worked in ones mouth. Unfortunately, being asthmatic & racked by allergies as a kid, I hadn't breathed through my nose in living memory, so I drew NONE of the Nitrous in! The cunt paid no attention whatsoever to my screams, other than to recruit the receptionst & co-opt my mum, & just continued to work whilst everybody else held me down.

Visits to the dentist have, ever since then, been pretty pleasant comparatively.

I used to have filling without anaesthetic cos I really didn't like the idea of being injected in the gums with those enormously long needles. Once I had a fair bit of experience with injecting myself in other areas I opted for anaesthetic on the basis it's not length but girth that's the issue. With needles, obviously. Got nitrous once that I recall as a nipper but you have to go private to get it these days afaik.

Oh bollocks I'd forgotten about all of that.

They were the tales that had you shit scared of the dentist when you were a kid; the ones about the fucking massive long needles they stick in your gums.

:\

They are long but they only poke the end in (fnarr, etc). Really doesn't hurt at all - especially given how sensitive gums can be. Uncomfortable for a moment but I rather regret all those fillings without anaesthetic cos they really frikkin hurt - faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar more than a quick poke with a needle does.

Must have a different dentist then cos those needles in the gum hurt like fuck whenever I've had it done.

Yeah good point. I had some of that anaesthetic the other week (a needle-leaved plant managed to poke me in the eye) and it was good stuff, numbed me right up.

To be honest I'm not really bothered about it all.

If truth be told I was just fantasising that I might get some decent ketamine or a cheeky blast on some laughing gas, or failing that at least a benzo! Guess not!
