Delayed Clonazepam Withdrawal Symptoms

Can Clonazepam symptoms be delayed for 10 days to 2 weeks?

I took 0.75 to 1 mg of Clonazepam about eight times a month for a year and a half, and about once a week for 2 years before that. In June I stopped for a month and half. I had mild anxiety but nothing big. I started up again in August.

In November I stopped for a week and half. I started to get generalized anxiety symptoms worse than the symptoms in June that were uncomfortable. This passed in 2 days.

In December I took 0.75 mg only 4 times. The last time I took the drug was Dec. 25. Last night was having the generalized anxiety symptoms that makes it hard to be at optimal efficiency. So this morning I took 0.75 of Clonazepam. Also I had 2 cups of coffee yesterday which does increase my anxiety but today the free floating anxiety was still there.

Could this be mild withdrawal symptoms? Did I make a mistake by taking the Clonazepam this morning? Should I just go cold turkey on Clonazepam? Is my situation manageable or dangerous. My family doctor is useless in these situations.

Maybe it's just good old fashioned anxiety.

I don't have any experience with addiction/ dependency to benzodiazepines but I don't believe that withdrawal symptoms would take up too two weeks to occur. This could be wrong because of the very long half life of K-pins and therefore there could be a large buildup in your system. I find this to be unlikely based off the dosages that you said you were taking. I would say that your situation doesnt seem dangerous, but then again Benzo's are extremely dangerous drugs to come off of cold turkey. I am going to assume people with experience will say not to come off cold turkey and to do a slow and gradual taper. You haven't been taking them very often lately so I don't honestly know your situation, its rather unique. Best of luck till someone can give better advice.

Short answer: unless you have an abnormally slow metabolic rate, or some form of liver dysfunction, it is nearly impossible for acute withdrawal symptoms from clonazepam to surface after an absolute maximum of a week.

Take this as good news and stop now while your still ahead.

If you were taking it only about once a week last month, and you felt fine for over 10 days after stopping, I would assume it's most likely just anxiety, perhaps anxiety that the clonazepam normally helps mask, as opposed to actual acute withdrawal symptoms. You can get rebound anxiety after stopping that can be initially worse than your previous anxiety. I really don't think you are in danger, you were not taking the clonazepam that often, it's probably primarily a mental addiction at this point as opposed to a serious physical dependence. If you want to get off the clonazepam it's important not to turn to it every time you feel anxiety.

I think that you're on quite a low dose of Clonazepam which you arent taking daily which is great news to start with. I think that the problems you're describing possibly are coming from very mild (if any) withdrawal from the clonazepam but mainly the anxiety resurfacing. By drinking coffee you're not helping the situation as it will cause an increase in anxiety in those who suffer from it. Like swimmingdancer said - this is most likely a mental addiction to the drug. You're most likely in no danger from stopping taking the clonazepam. If you're managing to last two weeks with no physical problems apart from elevated anxiety, you're likely suffering from rebound anxiety which is caused by benzo cessation.

Honestly - get rid of all the tablets you have. Just throw them out. There's nothing worse than a full blown physical addiction to benzos and they are the hardest of all drugs i've tried to get off. You're in such a fantastic position that you can simply throw the tablets out. You may feel a little more anxious, but honestly, this will subside over time. Again and I can't stress it enough - when you get anxious make sure you don't turn to the tablets to cure it. This is the sure fire way to end up in a mess. Have you tried (when you get anxious) any other methods of relaxation? Deep breathing, for instance? I know it sounds cheesy and many don't believe it works but honestly when I suffer from anxiety or intense stress I put one hand on my stomach, one on my chest and take deep inhalations through my belly. It calms me down to no end.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm gonna stop taking the Clonazepam.

Would there be any sexual side effects by Wednesday night if I took it today at 12pm?

^ By then it's highly doubtful. Good choice on cutting out the benzos as much as possible also. :)

Just from reading your posts in this thread, and being someone who suffers from anxiety myself I had a few questions. Answer if you are comfortable.

Were you taking the clonazepam for a diagnosed anxiety, and if so what other option have you considered? I can offer a few good suggestions if this is the case, and point you towards some solid related reading on here.

Hey man, yes I have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. My doctor keeps trying to put me on anti-depressants now, but I keep resisting. I have tried some meditation but sadly haven't really gotten into it.

your dose is low, and from what youve said regarding how often you take it you arent at any serious danger if you decided to cold turkey quit. if you stop using benzo's and feel no negative effects after 6days, you arent going to hit w/d. Those anxious feelings you experienced so long after your last dose were probably legit anxiety symptoms, not withdrawl

Good non-addictive antianxiety drugs

Tons of great reading here and ideas to consider at the very least. If you need someone to talk with you can feel free to PM as I can promise you that I do understand. I've tapered off of clonazepam myself before from a 4mg per day dose, and still currently deal with anxiety.
