Dehydration of mda

Hi
With mda that is a bit clumpy/sticky would it be correct to assume that it has some water in it?

if so how would it be dehydrated to a dry powder form?

Sure.

Gentle heating, perhaps reduced pressure if you have a set-up to do that. MDA is heat stable to boiling water temperatures. As long as you don't expose it to open flame, it won't break down.

If you only have a small amount (a gram or less), put a packet of silica gel or some other dessicant in there and let it sit for a few days. The silica will adsorb the water and trap it.

For larger amounts I would set up a double-boiler (steam bath) and heat your stuff on there for a while. If it doesn't change, it's some other contaminant that is likely of an organic nature and you should try a wash with anhydrous acetone, a recrystallisation, or an acid/base extraction.

I've found that kind of texture usually comes with MDMA that has a higher level of impurities, "Sass" MDMA has a really sticky/clumpy honey texture to it until it's been cleaned properly.

I would do a wash/recrystalization, as sekio suggested. That should get rid of any water anyway

Just a hunch, but does your MDA smell heavily of licorice (anise) by any chance?

Even if you're MDA is just contaminated with water, dissolving it in anhydrous acetone and recrystallizing it is a good idea. It's quick and easy to do. It'll break up the crystal structure, freeing water molecules trapped inside, and they should evaporate quickly enough while the acetone dries off.
