Hi

Im on the way to joining one of the forces as a musician (the Navy actually) and in the course of the interview the topic of drug testing came and that its hard to get musos cause of drug use blah blah blah. Anyway the dude mentioned that with further testing in the lab that they can ascertain whether youve had most drugs or not in the past couple of weeks.

Now I know that MJ stays in the fat for a few months and that mdma and amps are fully out in about 3-4 days, so was this guy having me on? I mean of course its possible that he had been had-on himself, but its not really possible to test for mdma use 3 weeks ago no matter how deep you look is it?

And while Im on the subject whats the deal with Opiates? I know codeine shows up as morphine in the brain so can be interpreted as heroin, morph or codeine or whatever, but how long is it traceable in the system?

Thanks.

they may do a hair sample test. I belive these can determine drug use for a large amount of time from the chemicals locked into the hair. I could be wrong...

Nah your right. Drugs can be detectable in the hair for quite a long time. 40-60 days even. Generally though, hair tests are rarely done due to it being rather expensive compared to a simple saliva or urine test.

Check this out:
How long each drug is detectable in hair

Amphetamine up to 90 days
Cannabis (single use) up to 90 days
Cannabis (habitual use) up to 90 days
Cocaine up to 90 days
Heroin up to 90 days
Methamphetamine up to 90 days
PCP up to 90 days

I've persoanlly talked to quite a few ppl from one particular Air Force Base. The drug use there is quite high - I personally talked to one person who told me they had smoked weed 2 days before a drug test and passed. The person involved was not a heavy user though. The point is that there are drugs everywhere in the military and random drug test are fairly regular - but you only hear of ppl being caught every now and then.

I think that they just try and scare you into not doing drugs which in the military is totally understandable.

Nice Tits

i know someone who was a heavy pot user, he had a drug test, he drank alot of water, the test came back as fucked because all the water in the urine they could not get a good test. they requested another test but the boss said 'fuck it.. it must be there fault'

i have not heard of hair testing beign done in any industry at all.. way to expensive i reckon,

alot easier to piss in a jar and them run the tests on that i think.

pinkanga, take it from someone who knows an aweful lot about the defence force (not saying any more than that) as long as you haven't had anything for a week or so you should be fine. It costs the defence force a lot to do as many drug tests as they do so they will only do a basic test on you to begin with. They will only take the testing further if it is really obvious that you have tried to cheat it (by drinking a tonne of water etc) or if they have reasonable suspicion that you are a frequent substance abuser. They don't test hair or even go further than a piss test usually unless you are involved in a major sting and nabbing you is going to nabb another hundred users etc. Even then they would just try to get you by searching your premises and car etc and if they didn't find anything there then you're not a big enough fish for them to spend their time on you. The defence force is extremely understaffed at the moment... you'll be fine... THEY WANT YOU! (they need you!)
Hope this helps!

During the medical for initial enlistment into any of the three forces you are not drug tested, the urine test is only to determine your health, i.e. sugar levels etc. The defence force however reserves the right to randomly drug test any member without notice. These tests though are typically not random and are usually on the recommendation of an NCO who suspects drug use in a soldier. The defence force also on a random basis drug tests large groups of soldiers, this is often done on a Monday morning or the day after a payday to increase their odds. Having said all that at the present time all drug testing in the defence force has been suspended following a legal challenge by a senior officer to his positive test that he claims is wrong.

In the event that a soldier does test positive for a drug (and it doesn’t appear in the news) it is usually dealt with in a manor to retain the services of that soldier with counselling and the like. The defence force has a massive problem with retention of trained personnel and for that reason they try their utmost to fix the problem rather that discharge the member. If however the soldier in question is involved in dealing to other members they are pretty much fcuked.

Cheers for all the replies guys, very insightful. I will use a little common sense in the next month and half and simply not use any drugs at all if I can help it.
