Defeating the 5ht2a Antagonist Activity of Abilify so as to Properly Experience LSD

I'm posting this in the Psychadelic section of the forum as well; please delete if this is in the wrong place!

LSD binds to 5ht2a receptors with an affinity (Ki) of 2.9. Abilify (ariprazole) is a 5ht2a antagonist with a binding affinity of 3.4. As I understand this, the values have an inverse relationship; in other words, LSD binds a bit more strongly than Abilify. What this all means as a practical matter is that a patient taking abilify must take a massive amount of LSD to properly experience its effects.

Short of discontinuing the Abilify altogether, what can one do to lessen/defeat the 5ht2a antagonist effects of Abilify, so one could trip more easiyl? Any ideas?

Thanks so much in advance!

Don't the older anti-psychotics work to abort trips just as well? Even though they haven't got 5-HT2A antagonist action? Even if you could eliminate the 5-HT2A antagonist action I'd still expect the Abilify to diminish the experience through an indirect mechanism.

I don't think this is a good idea anyways. Psychedelics aren't known for helping people who need anti-psychotics.

i hope to hear more about this if possible. i'm on abilify and would have to take a larger dose of psychedelics just to achieve the same effects. does anyone know if any other psychedelics may be effected? such as LSA, dmt, mescaline, psylocybin, ibogaine, muscimol/ibotenic acid (amanita muscaria) or any other psychedelics would be affected. and yes; how would one go about stil lbeing able to use psychedelics? i'm a long time user of LSA and loved it's effects regardless of needing an antipsychotic; but i use it mainly for depression.

I don't think you can have your cake and eat it too; you're either on drugs that block the effects of LSD, or you stop taking them, you can't take an antiserotonergic drug and expect serotonin agonist psychedelics to work.

This is kind of like someone saying "I really really like heroin, but I'm on naltrexone, is there some way to break through?" Nope. Receptors and their dynamics burn you again.

That's a great way to put it -- I think you're probably right. Also, justsayknow, I think most psychadelics are effected. LSD, shrooms, 4-aco-dmt, etc. definitely are.

I was on Abilify 10mg. Was on it for 2 weeks and stopped a week ago exactly. Will I be able to trip if I take drop 200 ug of acid tomorrow morning or should I take a higher dose of 400 ug?
