DEATH: Do we ever get to choose, and if so why?

I think for all practical purposes its best to assume theres no god

god made you so capable so you can help yourself

immortality is possible, harder question is if this universe is going to end and if so can we prevent it,if its stable or we can prevent it,infinite immortality is possible

IMO,more practical to believe,it is better to be right about God not existing than it is to be wrong and for him to actually exist and suffer(Pascals Gambit paraphrased). I do agree though to an extent that He made us able to help ourselves, set us like a clock would need to be set and left us to run, only interferring in rare instances to readjust the time on the clock or replace the battery.

Elaboration about your views on immortality please and being able to reach it? Also, are you talking about just physical (or semi-physical) immortality and mental immortality, immortality of just the soul,or all 3? As for if the Universe us going to end and when, look up Higgs Bosom Particle aka "The God Particle"...As for preventing it in our current Universe,IMO,that isnt possible due to the info provided by the discovery of "The God Particle". Not to mention to prevent something like this, some form of matter or energy would have to be created(which cannot be done bc of The Law Of Conservation of Matter and Energy) to counteract the course to its end that our Universe has been traveling on since its birth. However, keep in mind that bc of the two previously mentioned laws, it will not end, only change forms.

I feel this is one way we are different than other creatures and the Universe in general, because in rare instances people are given a 2nd chance at whether they wish to live life or go ahead and have the energy of their soul change form, recycled back into the Universe. The Universe cannot be given a choice in its Death because it is the schedule of which everything operates and where we get the concepts of life and death.

^i believe you mean skellington

I highly doubt anybody gets to choose, if your head gets popped off in a car crash, you can want it as hard as you want, life is kicking your ass outside

I feel like just about everybody is scared and unwilling at the moment of death

so basically when you die you have to meet certain requirements in order to die, if these are not met, and the old lady on the bus isn't satisfied you are stuck living. That is how it goes.

Ah you see, I had a similar situation (purely mxe though) but it was with the joker after just jumping off the top of a clocktower. I too didn't meet the requirements so he put me back on top and I had to come back to reality eventually.

Ahhh you NMDA antagonists, you so silly.

i once had a huge dxm trip on CCCs mixed with robotussin syrup, so enough CPM to kill me and enough DXM to put me in the fourth plateau. I distinctly remember blacking out after smoking a bong and entering some strange world. I was on a bus with an older lady and she put me through 3 tests to see if i would pass for death, i didn't pass the last one, at which point i returned to consciousness.

which were the requirements she asked?

There are always exit points in life; points in the process of learning where you are given the choice over whether or not you want to stay, or terminate the lesson and pick up in another place and time. The choice is not really made by ego, it's often a "higher self" choice like in near death experiences. The choice is made based on a comprehensive understanding of the over-soul, if you want to call it that.

It's not so much a matter of free will vs. determinism. It's a combination of both. You co-create with your own blue print. You're here to learn certain lessons but you can accomplish that through an infinite number of avenues. No matter where you are on this planet or what you're doing, if a lesson is supposed to be learned then life will keep putting it in your face until you learn it. You can choose to go anywhere, to do anything, to be anyone, but those lessons will show up.

Sometimes the learning is done and that's when you leave. Sometimes, for whatever reason, this configuration is not working out and you're offered an exit, but it's a choice that takes your entire being to make.

I've had near death experiences on more than one occasion, and have been revived. Each time made my purpose in life more clear, not less.

Suicide is mostly ego wishing to off itself. It's a shame because ego isn't real in the first place, it's just a projection. The more you become attached to ego the more you suffer. When you let go of ego, life (and its intended lessons) tend to flow better. Sometimes it takes being offered an exit point to realize that. Sometimes it takes trying to die to realize how valuable continuing to live can be. Life's a paradox like that.

agreed

I have always believed in fate.. and as a Christian have always believed in God's plans for everyone.. I do believe that if it's our time to die it is our time.. We will never know when and how but we should always be prepared :)
