Hey there I was on 20 to 40 norco a day for over 8 years.finally made it past the 24hr mark for the 1st and only time in all 8 years! i waited 36hrs and took suboxone film in 2mg stips every 2hrs till i hit the 8mg mark.My doc is one of the over prescribing types that tell me i need at least 16mg and "need" to be on sub for "at least 2 years" On one hand I know I need the sub for at least a while to get my mind right and (hopefully) get past the cravings to go back.but don't wanna trade one habit for another either! today is day 2 and I took 4mg film under tongue in the morning and am conused as to wether I should take the full 8mg at once ea morning or split the 8mg's and take half in a.m. and half in evening??? ugh I'm so confused and reading all the posts on net makes me even more lost! in a perfect world I would love to be off the sub completely in 6wks. also should I ask for subutex instead for the next script? I am a complete closet addict and NO ONE in my entire world other then doc knows I ever had a problem so I don't really have anyone to talk to of ask about this.Your help would be greatly appreciated!

I hope you were doing a CWE on those norcos, damn thats a lot of APAP! Maybe things have changed now, but asking for subutex over suboxone used to be considered drug seeking by a lot of doctors (BS, IMO but that's how it was). IME with sub maintenance, less is more. I would only take what you need to keep from being sick, you can always take more if needed, you can't take less. A lot of doctors over prescribe subs (at least around here), it's almost like they want you on the shit for years, makes no sense to me. Normally I would say listen to your doctors advice, but IME a lot of sub doctors seem to be all about the $$$. I am sure people with more experience and advice than I can give will chime in. There are some great tapering guides here; If you haven't already check out the bupe megathread, it should answer a lot of your questions.

I used sub to kick my small oxy habit (40-60mg). I used a one week taper. 1mg-1-.5-.5-.5-.25-.25 and I was done. Relatively no withdrawal. Less is more with sub. I was actually really high the first two days. I'd say keep your dose as low as possible and stay on until you're comfortable getting off it.

Thank so much for thr reply! I agree my doc most def wants me on a high dose for a looong time despite my asking him to set me up with a short term taper plan for sub! He refused and said if I didn't do at leats 16mg a day for 2 years I would fail ,wtf?! Anyway I def need the suboxone for the first month cuz knowing that it'll be 3 days before i wld get high even if I have a weak moment will get me thru beginning stages but that said, I am reading a lot of negative things about how the suboxone effects natural dopanine ect.,ect.Today I took 4mg in a.m and the other 4mg 2 hours later.I'm just feeling lost and confused and overwhelmed at when and how to dose properly.I read a lot of pots that said how you dose in the begining could dramatically change how easily you taper so thats where my stress comes in..I do not plan on taking any more then 8mg as this seems to be a comfortable dose for me.
took 1st dose after 36hrs clean taking 2mg strips every 2 hrs till I hit 8mg had headache all day but no other symptoms(no euphoric feeling like some say they get in beginning)
today I tooke 8mgs total 4mgs 2 hrs apart.

Anyone with any advice for me I would greatly appreciate I am lost scared and confused and due to my addiction being in a deep dark closet there is no one I can talk to:-(

P.S. never did CWE because I worried about potentcy loss.I don't even wanna think about what I have done to my body but yes for 8 years I have taken what started at 20norco a day and ended up to 40 a day.I hope this works as I am ready to change my life!!

Thanks in advance for all that took the time to read/reply!!!

xoxo

wanted to update in case it makes a difference..
like I said I took 4mgs,2hrs apart this morning (around 11am) it's now 3 pm and I do have a headache and shakey hands..is this normal and my body adjusting to the sub? or does it mean my dose is too high or too low? please help!

Start as low as possible (start at 1-2mg, increase by .5-1 mg every 2 hours as/if needed till you find the right amount to keep you out of WD). IMO, do not take more than you need it will make tapering down a much easier process when you're ready to come off. 16 mg seems insane to me for a norco habit, even a large one. Save your extras for a day down the road, you may very well need them when you start your taper process or if you would ever relapse. Everyone is different, but the mental aspect of WD is much worse to me than the physical part. The mental part stuck around for me for years and no drug can totally take that away. Benzos help but then there's another addiction in waiting. Also, you're not going to experience any or much euphoria from bupe at a high dose, the euphoria is more pronounced at a lower dose, less than 2mg iirc.

I just now saw your above post. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me can help you out cause IME i could see those symptoms being from either too much OR not enough, it's just hard for me to believe 8mg isn't enough to keep you out of WD for the habit you have, but again everyone is different. I wouldn't take anymore today personally, unless it is just unbearable. Are you sure you're not just having bad anxiety? The subs will only help with your physical symptoms, but I had major anxiety issues when going onto subs and it made me constantly think something was wrong with me. Again, for me the mental aspect was far worse than the physical symptoms, but I also have an anxiety disorder.

Less is more with suboxone. I recommend being on the lowest dose you can possibly handle. If only 4mg's has you feeling comfortable and prevents withdrawal, then you do not need anymore. The lower the dose you're able to stay on and for the shorter the time period, the easier it will be to come off and the less side effects you will have.

Many doctors over prescribe because the "textbooks" say that bupe withdrawal and addiction is no big deal. Well, that's bull shit. If you stay on 16mg's for years, you will have a brutal time coming off that shit.

you guys are amazing! idk if the headache is from the sub or bc not enough sub but I don't feel like I need to up dose for a headache.had it both yesterday all day and today all day after taking sub doesnt seem to go away at all!I should be very clear other then this headache and shakey hands first few hrs after takinf sub I am feeling ZERO wd's symptoms. Mentally I am going crazy and barely able to cope with the idea of living day to day w/o self medicating.I keep telling myslef its only been 3 days just get to tomorrow..ugh I pray this part gets more tolerable because my mind is the ONLY real problem at this point. Now I am wondering if I should have just stuck with 4mg and never up'd it to 8 mg on day one and now again today... if I was to try and only do 4mg tomorw to see if thats enough am i screwing up my system by bouncing around on doses during the induction period? what are the possible effects if I do try and only take 4mgs tomorw? does anyone who has been thru this have any advice on how to help the mental aspect of this.I have been on norco for 8 years but an addict for 20 it has been a very very long time since I have even faced 3 days w/o an altered state.scared shitless!

From my personal experience using subs to get off a 3 year heroin addiction (IVing for the last 9 months or so):

1.) DO NOT LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTOR - HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT! Just use him for refills when you need them and ignore his stupid "2 years at least" and "Two 8mg strips, twice a day" advice.

2.) Find the minimum dose required to take your mind off of whatever opiate you were doing and take that dose first thing in the morning as soon as you wake up. Find this minimum dose by starting low (.5 mg or 1/16th of an 8mg strip) and slowly adding .5mgs at a time until you find your comfortable amount. For me, right off the cold-turkey IV heroin I was only taking 1 mg at a time. I would fold the 8 mg sublingual strips in half, cut along the line, then fold one of the 4 mg halves in half and cut along that line, then fold the remaining 2 mg half in half and cut along that line, getting 2 "pretty close to" 1 mg squares. Leave 1 under your tongue as long as possible, and make sure you salivate as little as possible while its there. I'd have mine there upwards of half an hour. Don't eat or drink anything during this time.

3.) About halfway through your day, take another one of those minimal doses.

4.) Begin tapering as soon as you possibly can - always experiment with tapering. Say you've been on 1mg twice a day for 1 week - next week try to go down to .5 mg twice a day. If you're getting cravings then up it back to 1mg in the morning, but only .5 mg at your second dose, etc. Tapering is key. I was eventually taking .5 mg once a day in the morning - then once every 2 days, then just taking .5 mgs on "breakthrough" or extra stressful days. Until nothing at all.

5.) 6 weeks is really short, give yourself at least 2 months, taking low doses and consistently tapering. Don't expect to be completely clean of suboxone after 2 months either. You will have stressful days and your mind will wander back to using. Keep all of your suboxone (you should have a ton of extra at the rate the stupid doctors prescribe it) and use 1/16th of a strip on these stressful days (.5 mg). Don't feel bad about it, it's keeping you clean.

6.) Don't bother with subutex.

You really have to want it to get off opiates. You have to be strong minded and have a lot of will power. You will still feel withdrawals on some days, no matter how many suboxones you take. That's called your mind "fucking with you" so it helps to keep your mind busy. If you don't have a job, get a hobby that uses a lot of your brain to keep your mind busy. To this day (I've been clean for 2 years) I still occasionally catch my mind wandering to using. Once an addict, always an addict is true. You just have to be stronger then the drug.

It gets easier the longer you're clean. Just keep you're mind busy, and your goal (getting clean, I hope) at the fore-front of everything else. Good Luck my friend. If you need any more advice, let me know, I've been through it all - IV heroin is as bad as it gets, and I was shooting up some high quality shit.

If you have access to weed, using it as a crutch on those really tough days - it helped me get through my addiction - is definitely acceptable. Medical marijuana + EXTREMELY low dose suboxone is probably the most affective way to quit opiates at this time. Most doctors (who get a paycheck every time they prescribe suboxone) would never even dream to think of mixing medical marijuana with it - BUT IT WORKS! When I had cravings, I'd smoke a bowl and immediately feel the giggly affects of it and my withdrawals would dissipate. Not to mention there's been many other proven benefits of using marijuana despite what the stupid government (thanks a lot stupid presidents) tells you.

I have future plans of actually starting a suboxone/medical marijuana clinic to help others get off of the terrible mind-fucking addiction that is opiates.

Thanks for reading.
