I forgot to dream that this would end when I lay me down in the dark river.
I floated on by chilled to the bone, and every familiar bend taught me to be cold and wet. The river had lessons that I did not learn well, and pity and pain found their homes in my marrow.
Lungfuls of water brought me closer to drowning, and lungfuls of water-filled air taunted me with the threat of false dangers.
See, there's too much salt in this water for me to be submerged long and I know now that all rivers lead to the sea.
Tumultuous currents play dumb for a while; the sun kisses my face and tells me that Summer will come again.
I drift free in my content, and I remember what she said;
Everything is different.
