How extreme are the dangers of M-R substance?
Can you touch the liquid with your fingers without getting any serios injury or do you have to be extremely carefull and not let a tiny drop touch you???
Also, what is best and most portable test surface?
Anyway.. just to be sure - Nec

don't know about the dangers of touching it never have - I got a small white tile from home depot for 2 bucks that works nice, its about 2"sq and the smooth shiney surface makes the colors very obvious

Marquis reagent is mainly sulphurc acid. it isn't that dangerous if you are careful.
if you get a small amount on your fingers you have plenty of time to walk to the nearest tap and wash it off. wash it thoroughly, even if you cant feel it anymore. if, god knows how, you do get it in your eyes or mouth then run, dont walk, and flush them with water immediately.
a ceramic tile is probably the best surface to use. buy one from a hardware store and keep it for only testing. wash it thoroughly between tests and before storing it. if you are doing a few tests in a row it's a good idea to wipe the tile down with an alcohol swab between tests as this will cut down the chance of cross contamination. remember to keep your scraping tool a clean as possible too.
if you don't have a tile you can use the back of a ceramic plate, saucers are good, but always use the back of it and wash them particularly carefully.

Thanks for the info Johnyboy/Beantown,
is this in a faq? It should be.
Good and easy explanation on how to Use Marquis Reagent safely.
Thanx - nec

Just to let you know the reagent has sulfuric acid as well as a substance called Formaldehyde which is a chemical that they used to use in schools to preserve dead animals insects etc. This substance is a carcinogen which is a cancer causing agent. basically you should be wearing gloves and goggles, you shouldn't even be inhaling this stuff.

Which drug do I take for my headache; E_ or Tylenol?

When we do in-club testing, we take very small plates, less than 3" in diameter. they could fit in your pocket.

Here's a question that I've always been curious about but never bothered to ask:
What does the label on the E and E2 testers mean? You know, the "S6". I've seen "S2" on cough syrup as well.
I think this is an Australian thing. Can anyone provide a link?

clear cd cases on top of anything white is what i use if i don't have a white plate or tile

Actually, CD cases are a very bad surface to test on. The MR will react with the plastic in addition to the pill. Also, the MR can melt the plastic.
