Well..here it is....the official, dance music production thread...
may this thread be bumped and bumped for ever and ever....
im fresh out of topics after ranting about the nova in the novation fucking nova thread
smile.gif

anyone have any ideas how to make good drum&bass tracks on a computer program sequencer such as fruityloops?
ie., how do they get those phat basslines going>?

buy an 808...
buy a 303...
buy an acid squelcher...
buy buy buy etc etc etc
but seriously all you need for your pc is Rebirth, thats all you need for dance music.
c'mon, seriously, dance music production isn't that terribly hard. you just have to be creative (?)

Umm...in my opinion unless u want to write 'empty' acid...u would need more than rebirth.....try ORION, similar to the upcoming REASON, except it's cheaper, and i have it
smile.gif
I'm wacking together a audio apps cd soon, any ideas on what shoudl be on it? I have cubase 5, Orion 1.5.09, fruit loops 2.7, ppg wave vst2 pluigin, moog vst2 plugin, shit load of plugins, virtual sampler, etc etc....anyone have anything they'd like to contribute?
Then like, we could pass it around so we are all on the same level, as far as programs and apps goes.....
And Vaz Modular is the shit...
MikeySammy : I used to write dnB using impulse tracker, and bass synth sounds that i loop, and put amp envelopes on....i found that trackers allow probably the most in depth of song editing, as u can get in and see whats happening...i don't like all this new push a button and it lights up sort of sequencing...
hehe..and one other thing..those that have rm1x's, i have a question....on my 505, when u want to change a pattern(as in, change to the next song), u find the new pattern u want while its playing the current pattern, and changes over to the next on at the end of the current one....
something i noticed at allans on an rm1x, when ur fucking around with sections, how do u change to the next style without fucking up the flow? I know when u turn the left display knob it chnages styles, but that like..fucks shit up...is their like, a megamix function like on the 505 where u can pick out 'phrases' from different patterns anywhere in the box and mix em in? OR are u locked to one style per set?

serotone: I had this CD that you would have loved. It had about $25 000 worth of professional audio apps, sound mods, burning progs, wav editors/manipulators etc. The problem was, is that I burned it off this doode, but the blank CD was a pretty crappy one, and because it got alot of use the CD-tape thingy that sticks onto the plastic got torn off.
Anyway, I am getting a new one, with the upgrades of all these apps. If you want a copy, let me know. It hsa everything you could ever possible need ie: every ACID version, with cracks, full fruityloops, full ReBirth, wav editors recording facilities etc... A great CD. And pretty cheap as well. Cost me $2 for the blank, with $25 000 grand of software. You can work out how much I save I think

BTW, this is a great thread!

ok as far as Audio Software for the PC goes, I have Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and Sound Forge.
Sound forge is really, really useful.
I use my MPC 2000 (an independant machine) to create beats but SF is good to alter some samples etc.

MPC2000 or 2000xl? My mate has a 2000 and he is wishing he had an xl....oh well....
HORSEY: yeah i got a fair bit sitting here too...probably not 25grand but i got cubase 5, soundforge, wavelab, logic audio, rebirth 2.01, acid, fvruity loops, orion, some vst2 intstuments, unity ds1, virtual sampler, va modular, orange vocoder, *phew* plus more...
hehe
smile.gif

warez sites r0ck = )
okay well...fuck oath im interested in it
smile.gif

and does anyone have the yamaha a3000/a4000/a5000's? what are they like...
I want a fucking n0vation n0va/supern0va

Y0 mikey,
If u wanna make drum 'n bass without usin any real hardware gear u'll need to get ureself a copy of "Cubase", "Recycle" a shitload of decent plugins for "cubase" a software sampler (like gigasampler, unity, etc), "soundforge" for editing samples, a bunch of breakbeat sample cd's if u don't wanna use any of the classic breaks that have been done a million times already (that u can easily find round the web) and it would help if u had a decent sound card as well, and a fx rack, and bass synth and a mixe.....
oh yeah, software only.
Um to get nice and deep basslines isnt too hard.
Firstly you'll need a sine bass tone, synthesized or sampled - doesnt matter as long as it doesnt clik and pop.
Then to get that deep shit out of it u need to use the lower octaves to get that feeling in ure tummy when its turned up loud.
Then what u do is use some effects, either from a efx unit or from plugins (real gear kinda does the trick better.)
With the efx, u should try using a phaser and tweak it so its got quite slow modulation so u get that *moving* bass sound.
U can use a bit of chorus to thiken it up but dont pack on the efx too much incase ure speakers decide to blow (thats not good)
Oh and if u want those good bass sounds remember to cut the low frequencies on ure percussion, beats whatever u wanna call em.
That way u wont get a mess of bass makin it sound muddy and shit.
Um, i probly lost ya half way there.
Get cubase bla bla, if u cant find it on the net, let me know and ill lend ya my cd with k00l stuff on it next time i see ya (after i figure out who has it at the moment), or just wait till serotone finishes his k00l stuff cd cus he's got a newer version of cubase.
And in answer to that question about the rm1x mentioned above, theres no megamix mode or anything like that, if u wanna keep the flow u have to program ure patterns/arrangements in a clever way, but u gotta remember to keep the efx low on the parts that u switch between otherwise u have a bitch of a pause between patterns. Yes it really shits ya up the wall and is a real downer for the rm1x (along with its lame sounds).
But the sequencer in it is kik ass.
Oh yeah, and u need heaps of time, heaps and heaps!

komplex: i'm going to start using pro-tools next year when I get my mac. Its too big for my pc and I find the mac version is a lot easier to operate and is more of an industry standard, whereas micrologic gold etc...are for pc. I'm also going to be doing a sound engeneering course so I can finally find out how to get the most out of all the programs and hardware.

this site has a nice vocoder, and an anaglouge synth call fatman, however a friend built it, and doesn't like it too much. He ended up selling it...but anyway check it out

and then this site: http://www.techrepairs.freeserve.co.uk/projects.htm
Has a nice set of projects, one being a tb303 clone that is an actual clone of the orginal circuitry, including all the bugs the orginal had in it (that make it sound like it does).
It don't hvae the sequencer though..yet tehre is one dude working on a clone of teh 303 sequencer, and is also working on a 909 clone, at this site: http://www.resonance.fsnet.co.uk/
Um..i gotta few more sites somewhere with cool shit... http://www.teknet.ch/tb303.htm
( I think, on thsi site i found a link many years ago that lead to some site previewing the 505 before it was released...so who knows what u could find)
Umm..so anyone interested in buying any boards from teh oakley site, lemme know coz me and a mate a ordering some shit at the end of the year..we can save on bank fees and postage...
