I suffer from pretty bad anxiety and I'm wondering if anybody out there is on daily benzos for anxiety and take them as prescribed. If so how do you find being on benzos daily, is long term medicinal benzo use worth it? Also, is it reasonable to go to a doctor and tell him I suffer from anxiety, that benzos help a lot and ask to be put on a daily regiment or will they assume I'm just looking to get fucked up? Any info would be appreciated.

I have a "daily" lorazepam script but I don't take it every day, and that depends greatly on the doctor.

I can tell you for sure that long term daily (or even not daily) benzo use will cause more problems than it solves, that being said, having ativan on hand is a lifesaver for me and thousands of others who suffer from panic disorder.

I took my benzodiazepines as prescribed.

No, long term benzodiazepine use is not worth it. Benzodiazepine addiction is terrible in every way possible.

If you tell your doctor that you suffer from anxiety and ask for long term benzodiazepine because they work most likely you will not get prescribed them. Doctors are becoming more and more stingy with benzodiazepines and try to stay away from prescribing them daily. If anything "as needed". Benzodiazepines are a last resort type of drug and you will more than likely be prescribed an SSRI/SNRI.

ativan is better than xanax imo. It can make me sad but not as sad as xanax could make me. I call them panic life savers. I have a script for temazepam and hate the shit. It lasts toooo long. I cant even walk the next day I wake up and if I do I need help it seems :|. valium treats me better than klonopin at a 40mg dose. the lower the klonopin dose the better which is weird.:| klonopin is a weird drug. its got so many aspects to it I like and HATE. Its barely tolerable but I tolerate it. I dont know. Drugs are lame.

long term use of benzos will put you somewhere you don't want to be. but for "as needed" they are effective.

i wouldn't suggest lorazepam though, clonazepam is a better anxiety killer with less drowsiness than lorazepam and a longer duration(it will stop anxiety and keep it away; duration is 10-12 hrs). the only downside is it takes a while before peak effects are reached, but you'll feel it before it actually peaks.

if you need a benzo that peaks quickly, then alprazolam(Xanax) would be good as well. its a good anxiety killer, but has a short duration(3-5 hrs).

even diazepam is better than lorazepam imo, but some find lorazepam effective so see how it affects you.

anyway if you do get benzos use them for especially bad anxiety and talk to your doctor about safer long term anxiety treatments. i wouldn't suggest SSRIs because they have bad side effects and are ineffective ime. also don't buy into Buspar because it flat out doesn't work and has bad side effects as well(even worse than SSRIs).

Yep. My doctor scripted lorazepam to take daily, but I only take it as needed. I don't want to start another addiction (trust me, it is hard!) and, probably more importantly, I don't want my lorazepams to lose their ability to stop a panic attack dead in its tracks. I've used clonazepam for panic attacks and, personally, I feel that Ativan and Klonopin are equals when it comes to anti-anxiety use. Klonopin is certainly more recreational, however.

If you were going to take a benzo daily for whatever reason, I would recommend the longer-acting ones, Valium (diazepam) being the gold standard for this.

I've used Xanax for panic attacks as well, it was my first benzo script, but I really only see Xanax as a recreational drug now...

Different benzos work differently for different people. Your mileage WILL vary, and it will vary even more if you go with the SSRI/other antidepressant route.
