As someone who does not have any access to drugs at the moment, and isn't able to drink alcohol due to living issues, but a past recreational user, i've observed and heard of a lot of people on drugs or off them angry. I was wondering whats the reasoning behind some of this, from users who experience frequent anger from drug/alcohol use. Unfortunately those people who i would ask would all deny that they feel angry, depressed etc from their daily drug or alcohol addiction. I would assume if one is ON a drug they will be less angry vs off of it. But i've seen people angry even when they are high on whatever it may be particularly alcohol, and sometimes cocaine, heroin, meth, pills etc. Some people seem to be pretty pleasant even though they are addicted, maybe some have better control on their anger? But a lot are just angry all the time, and i was wondering why? Especially even when they are high as well. I literally get hungry reading about all these meds people on here get prescribed that no doctor i know would prescribe and i have seen many. But even with their drugs at their hands they still seem to be irritated sometimes more than others. I know if i got prescribed oxycodone, xanax, etc etc i would probably be extemely happy like in the past when i would use drugs. Their was only a few times i would feel a bit angry when maybe coming down from something, but normally i never experienced the anger etc that i've witnessed others going through. Care to elaborate?

Well personally when I'm actually on the drug I'm everything but angry - but when I'm not it's true I tend to be more tense/aggressive/depressed etc., because I'm not in that happy comfortable state anymore.
But when it comes to people angry while high, I think it just really depends on the drug. Like I tend not to be because I primarily use opiates which just calm me down and make me all happy with the world. But when I drink alcohol it's true I'm much more prone to getting aggressive because alcohol just makes you aggressive so easily, as do lots of uppers.
But as for why that is exactly, I can't provide much of an explanation.

Alcohol or drugs promote aggression or violence by disturbing regular brain function. According to the disinhibition hypothesis alcohol weakens brain mechanisms that normally restrain impulsive behaviors, including inappropriate aggression or facilitating antisocial behavior and can also lead a person to misjudge social cues, thereby overreacting to a perceived threat.

Alcohol promotes aggressiveness ^as mentioned by chloro, very well put and explained so i dont have to go into it ant further but especially when combined with stimulants or a benzo. The same goes for high doses of stimulants due to the flood of dopamine and you're simple inability to process it.

When withdrawing from drugs it's obvious as to why people are enraged and angry - their general state of mind being high is gone and they crave and suffer physical and psychological withdrawal - which links into aggression. I know I get very hostile and agitated when I'm in withdrawal from oxycodone, but when I'm on it wow you'd never meet a happier person.
