Cymbalta Withdrawal

Hey,

mods, if this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it. I thought OD might fit, but as it's a psychiatric drug, TDS might be better?

Anyway, I've been taking Cymbalta, 120mg for about 2 years now with Abilify. I recently asked my doctor to come off of both and he gave me a tapering plan. Being a bad patient, I just stopped both altogether about a week ago. I haven't experienced any symptoms, but as far as I know, the withdrawal can be a bad experience.

Am I headed for trouble? I feel fine and would like to continue without it, as Klonopin and Wellbutrin seem to do the trick for anxiety and depression. If anyone has experience or knowledge on the matter, please chime in, as I've had bad reactions coming off of meds before, such as the ever so lovely Effexor.

I was on 60mg of Cymbalta for 6 months last year, and like you, I just stopped taking it rather than tapering down. The only kind of withdrawal I seemed to notice was a constant feeling of slight nausea. It passed in a few weeks, and it wasn't that horrible to deal with in the first place.

I also seemed to get a little shakey or nervous in social situations, but that also passed in a few weeks and like the nausea, was not that severe either.

You seem to have been on a higher dose for a longer time than I was though, so I don't know if that would make the withdrawal any more intense or longer.

My experience with SSRI/SNRI withdrawal hasn't been bad at all. I never taper my AD's and I've never had a problem. Some people say they do- this is just my experience. However, don't be surprised if nothing significant happens

I have had very bad discontinuation effects from stopping Effexor (SNRI)... and the worst of it began within 48 hours of stopping.

IMO, you are free! If you haven't felt anything within the last week, I would be willing to bet you aren't going to feel any negative effects at all! Yay!

But, if for some crazy reason you do, benadryl always helped me. Of course, if you have access to benzos or opiates, they will also ease your suffering.

Thanks everyone for the kind replies. Hopefully I am free! As for Effexor, yes, my wd's began within 24 hours and led to full blown psychosis that required a month of hospitalization. Ugh.

At any rate, thanks guys, hopefully things will continue as they are, and just maybe someday I can come off the Wellbutrin as well. Not to mention my sky high dose of benzos. Thanks again.

Cymbalta is I think one of the easier anti-depressants to stop taking. Drugs like Effexor and Pristiq are amongst the very worst.

Either way if you've made it through 7 days you're probably going to be fine.
