Hello,
This thread has been started due to a dialogue began by myself and GentlemanLoser in a post of his. I understand that this section may not be the ideal place for it, but am unable to find an area better suited to the discusssion of this very specific genre of fiction.
For those not aware of it, Cyberpunk is a sub-genre of science fiction. It often portrays a near-future scenario where the earth is... dirty, over-populated and run down. Technology has advanced but still there are many aspects of our modern life.
Two of the more prolific (and in the humble opinion of myself an GL, the best of a small crew) cyberpunk authors are William Gibson, who is considered the father of the genre, and Neal Stephenson, who brought the genre back from obscurity in the mid-90's.
Films include Blade Runner, The Matrix, Johnny Mnemonic (although we don't admit to it), and many others.
Please feel free to contribute anything related to the topic, be it book or movie recommendations, or sites of interest.
Respect.

I first read Neuromancer when I was 14. It was a christmas present from my Aunt. I've not gone back since, and read that book well over 20 times now.
Gibson and Stephenson are the only two distinctively *good* Cyberpunk authors. There are plenty of hacks.
As for links, I'll dig one up later but I gotta go play Max Payne before work. From what I read on this one site he's planning another triology and the first book will be out in a year or two.
I can't fucking wait.
"It's not like I'm using" case heard someone say "it's like my body has devloped this massive drug deficeny." It was a joke. A sprawl joke in a sprawl voice.
I've read it to many times. :D

The only work I have read that probably qualifies as being under the "cyberpunk" genre is Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. Entertaining stuff, although i'm sure there has o be more out there.
Is Diamond Age or Cryptonomicon any good? Do they fall under the same genre?
