Cutting Fentanyl patches

I've read other threads on this but only in regards to using them therapeutically and actually sticking the patch on you.

But if you were to smoke it or inject it or what have you, is it alright to cut say a 100mcg in half making it a 50mcg and then doing whatever process it is to smoke it or IV it?

I don't know much, or anything really, about fentanyl patches. I don't IV and I don't plan on smoking it. I'm just inquiring for friends. And I guess even for myself actually in the future if I decide to give it a try (smoking... I don't plan on beginning to inject lol).

Also... May be a dumb or a weird question... But if one were to cut it, would it not leave a hole on the one side of one half of the patch? I haven't seen one before so I don't know how the drug is inside it, but it seems like it would seep out or something lol. *shrugs* I dunno.

Wait, are you talking about cutting a 100/mcg patch in half and shooting half!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reread post, even smoking that much fentanyl is dangerous as all holy hell, but injecting fentanyl... if it's for a friend and he plans on shooting half you needto tell him not to.

No, seriously don't do this please. Plenty of people have died this way. For one, fentanyl itself is very dangerous unless you already have a very high tolerance to opioids, and for two, the patch material is not safe to smoke or inject. Seriously tell your friends never to inject these!

The other thing is, you/your friends do not have a 100mcg patch but actually a 100mcg per hour patch. That means it releases 100mcg per hour for 72 hrs, it has a lot more than 100mcg total in the patch. So you would not get 50mcg by cutting the patch in half. It is absolutely vital to know for sure exactly how much fentanyl is in the patch. There is actually more than 72 times the amount of the hourly dose in a patch, as they contain some extra fentanyl as well. A 100mcg/hr patch will contain 11mg of fentanyl.

Cutting the patch, even for applying it to your skin will change how the fentanyl is released. Even without tampering with it at all a 100mcg/hr patch is not considered safe for someone who doesn't already have a high opioid tolerance. Tampering with it vastly increases the changes that it will kill you. If you or anyone you know is going to do it anyway please research it as much as possible beforehand. If you still want info on the safest way to smoke it I can tell you, but please know that it is still not safe.

There are different types of patches. The two main types of fentanyl patches are the gel reservoir design, and the matrix design. The gel ones are filled with gel, so yes it would leak if you cut it. The matrix ones have the fentanyl in an adhesive layer between film and don't leak. I think the gel ones are getting less common.

^ basically what SD said, but I believe that 100ug patches are total 16.8mg, 50ug are 8.4mg, etc., though check on the packaging to make sure.

So with a 100ug patch, cut it into quarters, then quarters again, then cut that in half. ~500ug smoked is probably a good place to start if you have a moderate opi tolerance.

I wasn't asking for the intention of me or anyone doing it I was just wondering if it were possible to cut fentanyl patches and have hem still work properly lol.

If they are gel don't think about cutting them if the are the other type it would be ok per-say. But really one rule to remember here please and I hate to sound preachy on this subject but really- no tolerance means no fentanyl - I've used opiates recreationally for years and years and messin with these patches still almost od me first time I tried using them any other way then just slapping them on my arm. Witch is what I would recommend you do with that sticky little thing if you just have to use it you can just pull it off if you don't like it ya can't un-smoke something.
