Perpetual Indulgence said:The average size of women seems like it keeps getting bigger. Definitely for the US where obesity rules. Just because it is average does not mean it is healthy. Personally, if I was a size anywhere within 12-16 (at 5'5") I would not feel comfortable with my weight no matter what continent I lived in.
A size 12 (in Australia) approximately equates to being between 60-65kg. Anything above that, is getting to be overweight for someone who is 5ft5 (by medical standards), but really, between 60-63kg is actually healthy. I'm 168cm tall (converts to just over 5.5ft) and i'm 62kg. As i said in my earlier post...in jeans i'm a size 11, in some pants i'm a size 10 (the wide-leg cut), but in some pants i'm a size 12. I'm totally comfortable with my body and its proportion. I have been a size 16 though, and admittedly, while i carried my weight really well, i was uncomfortable. Having said that, i've also been 55kg, and while my bottom half looked alot thinner than it does even now, on top, i looked gaunt, my ribs jutted out, my breasts looked like razor strops, i was a bag of bones. It all depends on your frame as well. I'm not meant to be that thin, i can't carry it off...i look emaciated.
I also have wide hips, so could not wear a size 6-8 even if i was (in my opinion), that skinny. I'd have to buy at least size 10 pants and have them tailored, because my waist is alot smaller than my hips as a rule. I actually have to take in my pants now... but that's another thread topic all-together!
*walks off grumbling about shitty clothing companies that only make certain styles of pants and don't cater to women with hour-glass shaped bodies or long-torsoed women*
