I know I'm not physically addicted to Nyquil. I'm not into any specific part of it (maybe the doxylamine) yet I go out of my way to get it. It seems stupid, but it's combo both helps my physical pain, and it reduces my mental pain. I just get into a zoned out state. Does anyone have any experience messing around with a totally benign substance like Nyquil or Unisom?

I also wouldn't call Nyquil benign. Although it is a brandname and you don't specify which you are taking there are many active ingredients which can as you said reduce physical pain and have calming or sedating effects. If you take anything with DXM you also get into the realm of powerful dissociative drugs depending on the dose.

Just pointing it out, doxylamine is not a benign substance. Try taking a lot and you'll see what I mean... things you didn't know could be possible with such a benign anxiety-relieving sedative. And the effects of long-term, high-dose use are not exactly benign either.

I used to abuse diphenhydramine (A.K.A. benadryl), one of two drugs used in unisom. It wasn't very benign IMO... ok to get to the point use caution and realize this isn't some miracle anxiety medication.

After my last breakup, stupid me went through my cabinets to find something to help me sleep. I took diphenhydramine (benedryl) and woke up with the worst panic attack. Stay away from that crap. That is the worst shit if you are already on edge. Sure, I fell asleep at first, but holy shit I went through hell for several hours. It was so bad that I considered going to the hospital, but luckily I toughed it out.

Yeah I agree with above I wouldn't call it benign. Most of these OTC concoctions seem to be pretty dirty chemicals, even if it doesn't have the same abuse potential as benzos or something stronger.

If you get effects that you like from it then it warrants caution just like any other drug.
