im sure that many of u have all been in the scenario of picking up one of those expensive, slender cans of so-called "energy drinks." Well there are a handful of them out now on the market, although i have only tryed two and drank one of the two more than once. you may have your taste, and dependability on the Mt.Dew~AMP, or KMX or whatever....now Red Bull, which is the most common, is now something i rely on at work for me to basically, bust ass and get a resturant closed.
Red Bull, which i am not sure of its birthday, originated in Austria, and its formula that us americans have tryed is the version 2.0. meaning, there was a predicessor to the drink that we see in gas stations. Yes the original formula was pulled when a young boy died from the strong medley of chemicals that some peoples systems would not be able to break down, or handle. And so they lightened it up to make it safer to consume. Noticably, the small size of the can may be a clue. Its not meant to binge! It has caffiene, and some other stimulants, and caffiene is not so healthy with other uppers when simultaneosly intaked. But for the everday full-time worker, or even party kid or dj alike, if u are short on energy and motivation, get yoself one and bang it real quick. Its not meant to sip. I know some of u may have tryed it, and sayed its bullshit, and doesnt work, but you gotta think, its not some illegal methamphetamine meant to make you speed your head off, its a mild stimulant primarily sold for coffee alternatives, and just another marketing wonder. Hell, even bars use it for liquor medleys. Go figure.
So how do any of yall come to think on this topic?
ISNT "CRANK IN A CAN" A GOOD NAME???
sassaffras stickness and godspeed!

here in the states we now have 16oz varieties...
my take:
now, they dont give me any special energy or pep...BUT they WILL fight off sleep effectively for about 45 minutes. When im driving at night and find myself nodding at the wheel ill immediately stop at a store and grab a couple, 16oz is enough to keep me fully alert for another 45 mins to an hour.
also, i work early mornings (3am) and when im short on sleep and physically cannot wake myself up, drinking these drinks all morning at work will keep me awake and in a mostly functional state.
/my experience

I decided I had enough school for the day today and came home and drank a can w/ some vodka just to see what the hype was. Felt just like I was drunk as usual, not worth an extra $2 IMO

In Indonesia they have a local 'red bull' that comes in a cough syrup bottle. It shit load stronger than normal red bull. When I was surfing like 6 hours a day we used to grab one on the way out to the reefs for our afternoon surf session. After surfing all morning you are normally really tired, but after one of these you're fully amped and ready to go :-)

In Canada we have REV , which is a vodka/blueberry type drink . It also has shitloads of caffeine , as well as guarana extract which supposedly adds to the overall buzz .

I almost never drink caffiene, so i'm sure i have a lower tolerance than most.
A friend and i stopped at the gas station and tried a couple of those new 16oz power drinks, to see what the hype was about. I was on an empty stomach as.
My god do they work. By the time we made it to a shop across the street, we had both become incredibly jittery, more talkative, wide awake, had to urinate, and were soon after struck with serious gastro intestinal difficulties. We went inside and talked the clerks ear off for about a half hour.
We were both pretty uncomfortable actually, and ended up shamefully smoking a bowl to "take the edge off".
Now again i have no tolerance, but there's apparently an assload of caffiene in these things. I'm personally doubtful of how much of a difference the other ingredients make, maybe i'm just being cynical.
In that sense tho, they're really not all that. Any coffee drinker can tell you caffiene wakes you up, they've just repackaged it as a new super duper magical energy drink. It's the same jittery ass pickup, if that's your thing. Plus they taste like ass. Triumph of marketing imo.

ah, rev ;)
i have never heard an accurate, undeniable description of the flavor of rev.
i have also noticed that it no longer has the bar over the e, which would make it 'reeve' if it's supposed to be a macron, or 'rave' if it's supposed to be an accute accent. =P
it's a progressive beverage, see, but i really don't think it does anything different than normal alcohol. at least it's made with vodka and not 'grain spirits' like some other prepackaged mixed drinks.

Rev..
The best way to describe the blue Rev is melted freezie mixed with pure ethanol. I don't mind that flavour, although after a few you stomach starts telling your brain "exactly what the hell are you trying to do to me here??". I've tried the green one, supposedly "apple" flavoured, and it's absolutely putrid.

I buy an energy drink of two every once in a while when I have nothing else to do. It's weird because usually it just gives me a higher alertness than Caffeine, a very awake feeling, and a hightened motivation to do work but once in a while I will notice that it gives me a little rush.

You buy energy drinks to pass the time??? This is a hobby I have never heard of..

Crank in a Can is a great term imo
one time when i had a paper to write i ended up drinking three red bulls and a mt dew in the course of like 3 or four hours.. the redbull made me really spun but when i had the mt dew (last) it made my heart pound uncomfortably
i dont normally take caffeine so when i do it really gets me amped.. i tend to take too much when i do take it though :)

To the guy who said energy drinks only keep him up for 45-60 minutes. Caffine takes this long to start chemically effecting your brain. Anything felt before this is placebo (which is equally real). Mabey caffine doesn't effect you much and the placebo is actually stronger than the drug its self. Also, guarana is caffine.

why the need to flame... god people on this board feel the need to jump on anything that isnt there point of view (or chemical fact)

well whatever it is, perhaps its just the ice cold and carbonation... it keeps me awake for about 45 mins, then im back to drooping eyes and falling asleep at the wheel.
and thats the fact of the matter.
