Misc Could recent amphetamine use negatively effect opiates?

I recently came into possession of some oxycodone. I just took a nice dose for me (and I have no opiate tolerance at the moment). The effects aren't as robust as they usually are. Now for the past two weeks I've been using dextroamphetamine. Sometimes I'll take several doses within 24 hours, sometimes only several hours apart. None of my dex highs is as strong as the first high, right after got the prescription. As a matter of fact, some of the highs have no euphoria and make me feel overstimulated and burnt out. So I'm assuming that dex depletes your dopamine and you need time to recharge. Without your own natural dopamine, dex just doesn't work so well.

Now as I understand it, one chemical opiates affect is dopamine. Could it be that my recent use of dex has hampered the oxycodone?

The dex leaves me kind of flat and gray feeling. I thought that the oxycodone would give me some "new life," but this grayness has persisted.

Basically any drug of abuse is going to affect dopamine because that's the primary neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reinforcement. Opioids primarily work on the opioid receptors (which naturally-produced endorphins function as neurotransmitters for).

Amphetamines act directly on dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin transporters basically increasing the release of these neurotransmitters (with d-amp theorized to act more selectively for dopamine whereas l-amp might be more selective for norepinephrine transporters).

There are lots of factors that could reduce the efficacy of the oxycodone for you but I don't think it'd be explained solely or even mostly by dopamine depletion. I'm not well-versed in pharmacology though so perhaps those who are can shed more light but I suspect other factors are at play and all we can do is speculate about what those could be.

I'm not sure what the clinical term for "grayness" is but if you mean depressed/anhedonic then I wouldn't expect a miracle cure from oxycodone. It might produce euphoria or it might do next to nothing to help that.

All we can do is speculate about why you aren't getting the desired effects so I'm going to close this. If you're expecting drugs to make you feel better then you're likely to be either disappointed or develop a habit because you're quickly going to NEED them to feel better. Careful what you're chasing.
