i have read a few posts on this board from people who have not been too affected by the tradgic events which occured on september 11, 2001. hopefully, this will help yesterday's events hit home for them...
these little anecdotes are completely fictional as far as i am concerned, but they were deeply inspired by yesterday's horrific events...

a little boy peers out at the clouds from his window seat. this is his first time on an airplane, and he is on his way to disney land. strangers walk from the back of the plane, past him, and towards the pilot. they are carrying weapons. everyone in the plane is nervous. people are crying and screaming, and the little boy cannot figure out why. shortly thereafter, the plane crashes through the north tower of the world trade center. this little boy was someone's brother. he could have been your brother.
a young woman is preparing for a long day of work. it's a few minutes past 9:00 and she has a fresh cup of coffee on her desk. she is logging into the computer system when a plane flies through the office. the young woman's work day, and life are cut short. this yound woman was someone's sister. she could have been your sister.
a few stories up, two men who have worked for the same company for years but never talked to each other feel the impact of the plane crashing below them. they rush towards the stairs, but they are engulfed in flames. both men rush to the window in a desperate attempt to see what has happened. fire is everywhere. their eyes meet, and they know they are doomed. the two men, once acquaintances, now suddenly best friends, hold hands and jump, together, from the 87th floor. these men are someone's uncle and father. they could have been your uncle or father.
a man is sitting at his desk when the plane hits. instead of leaving the building immediately, he stops to gather the pictures he keeps of his loved ones on his desk. he made it down to the 37th floor when the building collapsed. this man was someone's grandfather. he could have been your grandfather.
on the ground, rescue workers rush to help the victims. fire fighters are people who run towards tradegies, not away from them. a woman fire fighter runs up the stairs with a hose and other members of her engine team. they are determined to help those inside, and get the raging flames under controll. suddenly, the whole building collapses, smothering everyone inside. this this brave female fire fighter was someone's mother. she could have been your mother.
it is a day after the attack. a woman who fell with the building has spent the last day and a half trapped in debris from the collapse. she is alive, but badly wounded. she knows that if she survives, both legs will have to be amputated. her family fears that she is dead because they have not heard from her yet. a rescue worker sifting through the debris spots her, and takes her away. she is treated at a local hospital and reunited with her family and friends. this woman is someone's best friend. she could have been your best friend. keep hope alive.
to all those who's sister, brohter, father, mother, friends, and other loved ones were affected by this tragedy: my heart goes out to you.

It always easy to write something (or someONE for that matter) off when it doesn't directly effect you. This is a great reminder that among the 1000s of victims, somehow we are all greatly affected.

Wake your mind up. Clear your eyes up. Move and rise up before your times up. Clock is ticking. You're caught slippin'. Stop to realize. Look and listen.

that was beautiful
everyone is so concerned about revenge and causing more death that they don't stop to see that enough are dead. we need peace now more than ever, not war.
thank you, people need to realize that they aren't just statistics, they are people. but don't let this situation depress you. Think of another story.
A woman comes to work thinking "this day is going to be horrible, but i get to do something great tonight" And they died sad. Every day of our lives are a blessing, and they can end in an instant, unexpectedly.
peace and happiness to you all.
