cotton fever doesn't make sense

1) Small bubbles of air do no harm.

2) If you inject pills, you should always use micron filters.

3) I only have experience on OC:s but for those: using a piece of tissue soaked in isopropanol or ethanol, wipe the colourful coating off the pill. Then crush it, add water, boil slightly, filter first with a regular filter, then run it through a micron filter.

Well, you got lucky for a long time, especially with tar. Using alcohol would help you figure out if it's a particulate issue, or if it's bacterial, since it'd take bacteria out of the equation.

It sounds very odd, imho.

Nope it's due to an allergic type reaction to fragments of bacterial cell walls from bacteria killed by heating etc

I've only had cotton fever once, shooting morphine. Shot meth for years without any though to safety except not sharing needles. Reused points without a second though, never cleaned my arm with an alcohol pad once, shit I've drawn water up out of a ditch to do a shot. Cotton fever changed all that. Never felt that bad (well, there was a car wreck, but anyway) in my life. Take the safety advice here and in OD seriously people, this shit ain't no joke.

so is that why I never had it happen in years of reckless meth use? You don't have to heat that, obviously. Also I wonder how well bacteria would do in a meth solution, the stuff seems to be so corrosive. Eats up razor blades.

^ Did you reuse cotton filters after days? - the bacterias need time to grow!
No, always licked the spoon and through it in the sink. The time I got cotton fever was a new spoon but used rig. Obviously the bacteria must have grown in it, it just seem odd that I used the same unsafe practices literally thousands of times with meth and maybe the tenth time I shot an opiate in my life WHAM.

you can get a hypersensitivity reaction to any sort of protein or carbohydrate. no doubt you have trained your immune system to recognize some particular antigen(s) in the cotton. could also be bacterial antigens, but i suspect that the dental cotton and pills harbor very little bacteria on their own.

what kind of water are you using? if you are using a contaminated source (like unfiltered tap water) there are all kinds of organisms that could live in there.

as an experiment, what if you took 50 mg benadryl and two aspirin (to cut down on prostaglandin production) about 30 minutes before you administer your drug? this may reduce some of your symptoms, if it does you will have some evidence of a hypersensitivity.

re cotton poisioning

most cotton balls arent as sterile as you would think. most generally they are just good for removing make up or applying alcohol. a filter off a cigarette is way more sterile. the us govt has such strict standards as far as cigs go that they are probably over sterile. they are cleaned, bleached, cleaned, rinsed, and bleach again. they are 10 times better to use then cotton balls

dont cook the water or heat it , it just spreads bacteria, i always use cold water for pills, if u get the fever pop some ibuprophen and hop in a really hot shower ...try to sweat it out...rehydrate... and throw out the bad cotton there is no way to clean it

wow - i started this thread years ago and cannot believe it is still going! first: thank you all for your educated and thoughtful responses. i have, and also did at the time, Hep C. i think the theory that my body was rejecting any micro particulates is correct, as could be that of the dead bacteria leaving cell walls...... who knows. when i was most reckless i was half my age and my liver in good shape. the advice for anti-inflammatory med, anti-histamines i'm sure couldn't have hurt, but bottom line, if you're going to shoot pills, as i think capt H said on the first page: micron filter! i'm no longer dicking around w/any of that at the moment, and hopefully won't for a long time. i've had successful spinal surgeries, etc, that have relieved my pain to a manageable level, and my diabetic cat died, so i no longer have the aggressive suggestion to f'around w/any meds via IV. i thank you all for your educated and thoughtful advice.

to the one guy, just starting, who wrote in all bold, Oclure, i think: be very careful. what i was shooting were tiny, instant release pills, w no coating whatsoever. and as you see, i still had issues. you're probably younger and healthier than i was/am, but no need to fuck that up. i wouldn't shoot anything w/o a .2 micron filter, but i know that's a lot to ask for most street drug users. but don't be fooled by the idea, as i was, that pharms are safer because they weren't just up someone's ass. (tho i appreciated that guy's post -- it is ridiculous how people, as myself, get flamed for shooting pills....) they should be, but the binders are made by professionals to BIND to the material. they aren't made for shooting.

and a quick not on steri-filts: they suck. imho. they are over-priced and ridiculous. as if someone glued a round of circle of coffee filter on a cone for junkie to suck dope through....... no offense to anyone. just my experience. i wouldn't waste the money or the time. pre filter via back load, then use a micron filter and all should be as good as i could get for an IV user. capt H wrote a brilliant, easy to follow FAQ on this forum explaining how to use them. they seem complicated, but aren't.
thanks again to all - and be safe
g

ps. Ham - i think you're awesome.
