Opioids cotton balls vs. cigarette filters

what are some pros and cons of using cigarette filters instead of a cotton ball to IV pills, particularly dilaudid and oxycontin, just acquired a bag of about 300 cigarette filters and I'm wondering whether i should put them to good use or not

Wow, I never would have thought to order the cigarette filters. I always thought of using them just as a last resort if I didn't have cotton. I'm interested to see more replies as to which is better, and if there have been any studies on this.

Has anybody used the micron filters, becasue I was wondering if their material is more like cigarette filters than like cotton. If they are more like cigg filters, then this would suggest that the cigg filters are better than cottons since micron filters are considered the gold standard for filtering.

IMO cotton balls and cigarette both work just fine, regardless which one u use, u'll always end up with clear water and the same amount of filler will b left behind

by cigarette filters i hope everyone is referring to rolly(rolling tobacco) filters and not tailor made; as some can contain fibres within the filter that may end up in your end solution and finally into your blood stream, causing some bad irritations.

personally i've just about always used cigarette filters over cotton balls for consistency. ultimately you want to be micron filtering your shot after filtering it with cotton or a filter.

^yeah the fibreglass is what i was getting at. i've always avoided any and all types of pre-made/tailor made cigarette filters because of this.

I prefer cotton balls personally, I always just roll them up really tight, and they work better for me when using them on things like pills, but cigarette filters are perfect for on-the-run public restroom visits.

When I started IV'ing, I used cig filters. They are certainly easy to use and work well....UNTIL I got a few BAD cases of cotton fever...worst shit ever..thought I would die! Since I swicthed to micron filyers, I've only ONCE had a very mild cotton fever since then.

NOw I wouldnt do it any other way but to use a micron filter.

I sure have, micron filtering is ideal if you are going to put any money whatsoever into filtering. I used to get cottons from the exchange (for free) but rarely used them before I got micron filters.

Since the filter is just cotton for camels that is a plus, but you want to make sure you're not introducing any flakes of tobacco into your solution, as other people here have said it can cause a "cotton fever" like reaction. So if you are careful about it, then you should be OK. Just only use Camels filter's since they are cotton.

There is no fiberglass in cigarette filters, it's a persistent urban myth. Snopes has an article on the origins of the myth. The vast majority of cigarette filters (both tailor made cig filters and rollie filters) are made of cellulose acetate from wood pulp. In Australia cigarette manufacturers must post the entire ingredients of their products online, including the composition of the filter, so it's easy enough to check out your fave brand.

The study below from the Harm Reduction Journal compared cigarette filter, cotton ball and micron filter. They didn't find much difference between cotton and cigarette filtering, except that possibly the cotton retained a little bit more of the drug, but nothing significant.

if tobacco can cause cotton fever i could hypotheticly see a cig filter with no visable tobbaco containing tobbaco residues on it wich could also hypotheticly cause cotton fever in this case i would say stick to cotton balls or roll your own tobbaco tubes

i have used both. in my opinion the cig filters are better, because convienience and usefullness. they seem to filter better and dont retain alot of solution. just make sure to get the filter off before you smoke the cig, haha, sad as it sounds ive seen people use old cig filters. nothing like a nice big shot of tar and god knows what else.

Ive never used justpeices of random cotton. I either used Q tip balls or the needle exchange gives out bags of "condom cottons" which are very tightly packed and have a hole to put the syringe into so it filters it the best ive found. the times i was forced to use cig filters it always worried me because no magtter how i tore it there were always lose fibers on the ends...

This was a common occurence among junkies when i was on the streets. I've seen one guy pick a random cig filter off the ground, he managed to pick the dirtiest fucking one and didnt care, then proceeded to take a needle out and use PUDDLE WATER (in the ghetto, in a gutter with trash) and RED GATORADE to shoot his heroin. I'm proud to say i've never done anything like that.

i could have sworn reading a thread on here a few years back that had facts that some cigarette filters did include fibreglass. maybe i'm getting it mixed up and have been under the wrong impression, believing the myth.

I have heard that cigarette filters when used to filter various drugs can lead to a build up of some kind of fiber in the lungs. I have nothing to prove this, but I used them for years and now have copd and a newly found node in my lung. That doesn't mean it is related, but it could have been at least part of the cause. But I used A LOT of filters, too.
