They can test for diacetylmorphine which is only detectable within the first hour or so after use before it breaks down into morphine.

Chances are they're not going to find much, if any diacetylmorphine. If they're using drug tests to determine what was used, they'd typically test for a mam's, which can be detected up to around 24hrs.

Usually it could be obvious to see what caused death. There may be paraphernalia around, trackmarks, etc. If they find tracks, and the kid tests positive for morphine, it's a pretty sure bet that he's shootin' heroin and not morphine...

You can't test for morphine in an overdose like this. If there is any heroin at all in the sample, you have to assume that 100% of the morphine and morphine metabolites in the blood are there from the metabolized heroin.

If he within an hour of taking the heroin, its still in his blood. Dead bodies don't metablize heroin.

Has anyone concidered he was using black tar? Since that still has morphine in it that could be why they listed both... probably just the writters reading an offical report, seeing morphine as one of the causes of death, and not realizing that H breaks down.

MAM is mono-acetyl morphine. heroins other metabolite other than morphine. upon enterting the body heroin undergoes rapid de-acetlyation leading to its unique metabolite 6-MAM and its other metabolite morphine. so yea unless they found crushed up ms contin reidue in a spoon idk ow the fuck theyd determine morphine and heroin seperately.
