Coroner: Dr. Dre's Son Died From Overdose of Heroin and Morphine

Dr. Dre's son, Andre Young Jr., died from an overdose of heroin and morphine, the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner confirmed to PEOPLE on Friday.

"This case has been closed, it's been ruled an accident due to morphine and heroin intoxication," coroner spokesman Larry Dietz told PEOPLE. The drug test results had been pending for four months.

Young, 20, was found unresponsive by his mother, Jenita Porter, 40, in their Woodland Hills, Calif., home on the morning of Aug. 23.

Paramedics pronounced Young – who was remembered by friends as an optimistic young man – dead at the scene.

Porter told investigators that her son had been out with friends that night, and she recalled hearing him snoring around 5:30 a.m.

"Dr. Dre is mourning the loss of his son," the rapper's publicist Lori Earl previously said in a statement. "Please respect his family's grief and privacy at this time."

Is anyone actually asking you to feel bad? I'm pretty sure since Dr. Dre is someone from mainstream media, news about him and what's happening in his life is going to surface.
 
I always wonder why everyone hears snoring(same thing was said about Heath Ledger and, I believe, Anna Nicole). Is snoring a sign of an OD?

You say the world was handed to them but you don't know that. You don't know the relationships they had with their family, whats gone on in their lifes. Its not as if being born into money is a foolproof way to happiness and a long life. LOL
Theres just no reason to have posted what you did, ragging on Dre for no reason too, the whole rap scene is fake genius, and we could argue all day about who the "real gansters" in the rap scene are or whatever but the fact is they are all promoted falsley to look tougher.
And you claim Dre a DJ and not a rapper, motherfucker got plenty of rap songs so I don't know what the fuck you talking about, and fakest SINCE 50 cent? Dre was big YEARS before anyone hear of 50.

Are you aware of how popular the club scene was in Compton? DJ Yella was also in the same group as him man, Dre still a good rapper, don't ever fucking compare Dre to 50 cent you dumbass bitch. And NWA broke up Dre performed more on the second album, but left afterwards because of this situation with Eazy and their manager, Ice Cube left too also before Dre. Plus you have no idea how Dre lived, Eazy-E and him talked shit on each other constantly doesn't mean its true. The Chronic is one of the best west coast albums of all time, and don't forget snoop doggy dogg his protege.

RIP to his son, thought he'd be smarter than using heroin at all. Plus didn't you ever see the Chappelle show with Prince, that's how the style was lol. All members of the group were pretty good rappers (The DOC included) Eazy was pretty good, but Ice Cube wrote Cruisin' down the street in mah 64. Dre had ghostwriters too, he'd look what people wrote (The DOC mainly) and would change lines to as he seen fit, pretty good producer though, but I think rapping should come from your heart, and be your own shit.

How could they tell the difference between a heroin overdose and a heroin+morphine overdose. They both look EXACTLY THE SAME. EXACTLY. Forensically I mean.
 
Its always sad when parents have to bury their children, doesnt matter if theyre celebrities or not.
 
To Ungoliath: You're friends weren't celebrities so why would they write a story about them overdosing and dying? People get paid to write about celebrities and their families. Do you think the media has time to write a column about every single person who overdoses on drugs? No. Even if they did, do you think many of them would get read? No. It's common sense as to why they would write a story about Dr. Dre's son overdosing and not your friends.

They can test for diacetylmorphine which is only detectable within the first hour or so after use before it breaks down into morphine.

maybe they were able to tell because the heroin and morphine were in separate bags/containers?? they only look the same if the h is pure which odds are it wasn't. I dunno just a thought i doubt it will make his parents hurt any less either way their son is still gone and they're probably going crazy wondering what they did wrong, or how this could be happening to them. it's all very sad but isn't it always when someone od's?

you should never disrespect the dead or the family in mourning
its bad karma and a sign that you're a true asshole.

This happened to me as well, thankfully someone in another room heard me. What you're hearing is the death rattle (the gurgling or rattling sound sometimes made in the throat of a dying person, caused by loss of the cough reflex and passage of the breath through accumulating mucus).
 
Was on my way to post this story when I found this thread. R.I.P. Anytime someone dies from an O.D., it should be a reminder to ALL of us of the seriousness of certain drugs. Learn from others' mistakes and respect the dead, whether you like them or not.
 
^really? wow was this just announced yesterday though because i actually saw it on tv last night ,when i was watching the soup on E it scrolled on the bottom of the screen. i forget what the date was though
