I was diagnosed with having a corneal abrasion just from simply removing my contact lense last night. I went to the ER and got some antibiotic drops, dialating drops and some hydrocodone. Fortunately, 37.5 mg of hydro is breaking through my 2mg bupe dose (which I skipped this morning in case I got narcotics to take home) so I'm getting a little (albeit very little) relief. The pain is so very acute though. The doctor said it should heal very fast, but mine is a fairly moderate tear. Has anyone ever had one of these? How long did it take for you to heal? Thanks.

It depends on how deep the abrasion is. If it is the epithelium (which I assume it is based on how it happened) it usually heals within 24-48 hours.
However, you can have a recurrence. I would not wear contacts for at least 7 days.

i have had plenty damage to my corneas during a lifetime in heavy industry .
corneas heal remarkably fast . you will wake up soon with no 'sand' in your eyes .
