Continuing thread comparing efficacy between benzodiazepines

my experience & background:

I take 1000mg-1750mg (max) of butalbital daily to control seizures (its a barbiturate), 2400mg to 3600mg of gabapentin; and 4mg of buprenorphine (subutex formula)

With that said; only some benzodiazepines seem to work; don't know if there is a CYP hepatic interaction there or what?

BUT: i have an Rx to temazepam, & for me at least? 30mg through 90mg works best; but mostly as a hypnotic.

alprazolam (name brand "xanax"), is actually a triazolobenzodiazepine (i.e., just a benzodiazepine molecular skeleton WITH an added triazole ring attached to it). However, i feel next to nothing aside from increased barbiturate effects; even above 4mg of alprazolam! its probably my least favorite benzodiazepine

  • etizolam is hands down the best for anxiolysis;
  • temazepam (sleep)
  • clonazepam for anxiolysis/sedation/sleep... just all around.
  • diazepam anxiolysis (a traditional 1,4-benzodiazepine)
  • Others? like lorazepam & alprazolam really do jack shit. 3000mg of gabapentin works better for me, actually.

But! that's just me!

Any comments? As i'm continuing an older thread here that had been closed

take that back... I took 2mg of alprazolam (xanax) last night & was knocked out cold.

This could be b/c i did a detox down to roughly 1/2-2/3 my typical butalbital/barbiturate use.. so perhaps the butalbital does have some interaction w/ triazolobenzodiazepines.. err, benzodiazepines w/ a triazole ring attached to it?

I would say its a liver enzyme problem. Benzodiazepines (triazolos or otherwise) should increase the effects of barbiturates as they dont bind to the same subreceptor, so there shouldnt be any competition.
