Hi, I have used several GABAgenic drugs in the not too distant past and I would like to see if there is a simple combination of supplements that would help me (and my brain!) recover quicker.

I have also done a lot of other 'stuff' in the past.

I currently take 1 x Multi-Vitamin/Mineral tablet and 1 x 1000mg Cod Liver Oil capsule per day.

I have tried 5-HTP before and I have not found it to be helpful.

I am interested in -

L-Glutamine (I'm looking at 750mg capsules, any dosage information would be helpful :) - "Glutamine is an essential amino acid it is an important building block for protein it helps maintain cellular health and tissue repair."

L-Tryptophan (500mg capsules) - "L-Tryptophan may help control your Serotonin levels, which affects your moods and can lead to depression."

L-Tyrosine (500mg capsules) - "L-Tyrosine is an Amino Acid it plays a vital role in the building of protein which we need for normal growth and

to regulate our metabolism."

L-Theanine (300mg capsules) - "L-Theanine is an amino acid found almost exclusively in the tea plant (Camellia sinensis), which is thought

to be responsible for Teas relaxing benefits, when brewed. The amino acid has been extensively researched and appears to promote relaxation without causing drowsiness, by enhancing endocrine

function."

L-Arginine (500mg capsules) - "L-Arginine may help to promote muscle gain, erectile function in men, circulation, improved immunity and a healthy heart."

Can anyone recommend a healthy regime using a selection of the above amino acids?

Does anyone know if they can be combined without issue?

Any advice is welcome :)

Kind Regards,

D

not sure if i have anything to offer in terms of what you've decided on (sounds like a pretty good combo though) ashwagandha is my supplement of choice, it's an adaptogenic herb. might be worth looking into. :) i've been using it for a year or so and have noticed that i feel much better regarding stress and sleep.

I'm not sure about tryptophan & tyrosine, seemed to cause some circulation problems in me, but that might just have been anxiety, seemed about as helpful as 5htp (not at all helpful). I'd prefer tea over theanine too, it's good for antioxidants & caffeine too. You can get most of those amino acids & more (bound to proteins, as they naturally are) in a protein supplement, whey protein seems to work well & it's quite high in tryptophan. There are still some health concerns over tryptophan, it's debatable whether it was a bad batch or an effect of (too much?) tryptophan taken in pure supplement form, either way, I have a bag of it & I wont take it again. I'd rather eat oily fish than fish oil capsules too, a couple of small portions of oily fish a week is more than you'd get from fish oil capsules every day. A small tin of sardines seems to have 10x more omega 3 oils than a high strength fish oil capsule.

So, a proven safe & healthy way to take those amino acids is to drink milk (maybe with whey protein added), as long as you're not lactose intolerant & tea. Other dairy products, eggs, meat & fish are great sources of protein too. Don't forget to eat plenty of fruit & vegetables too. Supplements don't substitute for a healthy diet & if you're getting a healthy diet then you wont need any of those supplements that you've listed.

I've been trying n-acetylcysteine recently, that seems good.

I've used noopept for a while & that seems good too.
