Consider Saving Reference Pills

I have managed to save one or two from every batch of pills I have come across. I also keep fragments from when I divide a pill in half and use those as comparison standards for pill testing.
Then if I am unsure of what test result I see, I can run the same test under the same conditions on a pill that I know, and see if things are consistent.
This has payed off once already. A friend and I tested a pill once, and the Simon's reagent indicated MDA. However, when we re-ran the test against our "standard pill", we discovered that the test kit had gone bad.
The only problem with this idea is resisting the urge to pop your standard pills when times are dry!

well, if you know the standard is MDMA...from a GC/MS report site, or just an 'extreme' test...
when you say the Simon's test said it was MDA, you mean that Marquis or some other reagent gave an MDxA result and that Simon's reagent confirmed it was MDA, right? Simon's test is only useful for identifying secondary amines.

Actually, I have a standard MDMA pill and a standard MDA pill - which comes in handy for both comparison purposes and for teaching others how to properly interpret test results.
The MDA pill has been confirmed as such by DanceSafe GC/MS. The MDMA pill has not, but strongly resembles one that has.
I wish I had a few speed/PMA/DXM standard pills as well - although I am glad I have not paid good money for them in my practical experience!

what a good idea!
i would recommend everyone keep a pill library. and a record of consumption. at the very least it makes for interesting reading and remeniscing about all the good ones...
plus you get a stash you can hand down to your grandchildren...
