Confused About Gabapentin Side Effect

So I've been given a script for gaba and one of the side effects is weight gain. I saw a load of posts on forums saying it made them gain weight but I want to know if it's the pill or the food choices these people make due to increased hunger or something?
I'm taking it for nerve pain as an alternative to codeine as I'm trying to ween myself off opiates altogether at the moment.
Just be interested to hear from anyone who knows about this drug.
Also I'm new so if I'm posting wrong please do tell me

GABA = Gamma-aminobutyric acid is associated with weight loss

Gabber = Brain rape, wake up in a field unable to move your legs thinking wtf happened to the last two days :D

Is that the drug or the increase in appetite because I can manage my eating just fine but if the drug itself causes it I ain't taking it. I'm anorexic.

gaba sucks man. Make it a Johnny Rocket (google it) and its better. But honestly not worth the time or copay. It sucks doesnt even help pain unless you fuckin eat half the bottle.

gabapentin is a strange drug..the first 2-3 days you will experience a pretty good buzz off of it, u will feel more social and my sex drive went way up, my sleep was incredible too, very vivid dreams...after 3 or so days though, the drugs turns on you and made me an apathetic, tired mess...massive brain fog..i didnt gain much weight on it though..
