Confederate flag on state property/on state flags?

Kentucky decided to keep the statue of the great Jefferson Davis in its capital!

Kentucky has decided to keep the statue of a man whose nation they fought against, whose nation disrespected Kentucky's pledge of neutrality and invaded it, whose nation who was founded because they thought the federal government should impose its will on the free states of the north in order to ensure a racist ideology that believed blacks were naturally inferior to whites.

At least the statue shows to the rest of the state that Kentucky's education system has deeply failed, at least in the subject of history.

Well they are adding a plaque with notes on his historical significance to KY tbf. He was important to our state regardless of where he stood in the confederacy, being the point. The state was very much divided. The North and East was more like the other Appalachian regions where slavery was of little significance to the mountain people; they mostly wanted to be left alone. The south and especially the south west of KY was much like the rest of the agricultural south, dependent on free labor to sustain their way of being. The line ran through meughlenberg county but the sympathies for the southern cause ran far past it according to KY history. I myself like history and the truth is if we dug up the past of every important figure very few would make the cut to be remembered. Erasing history will only doom us to repeat the mistakes of our past. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison all owned slaves we should erase them too and will if we let this slippery slope of progressiveness ride IMHO

Instead of erasing history, what about lying about history?

Kentucky was a border state, but it was one that saw 90,000 of its people fighting for the union, while just a little of a third of that number - 35,000 - fought for the confederacy.

I just said the state was divided this is a well known fact?? I am not seeing any point here tbh. No one is lying, Jefferson Davis was wrong about slavery and he paid for it after the confederacy lost. Former student at transylvania university and native of kentucky was still a kentucky figure of importance and reverence hence the statue.

It was divided, and it wanted to keep its neutrality, but it leaned heavily union.

Reading between the lines, it appeared that the common citizens leaned towards union, while the elite and powerful leaned towards the confederacy.

No need to lie about history, it is what it is. Funny cultural Marxists are now going after Florida and Alabamas flag bc they look too much like the battle flag. The saint andrews cross is being demonized to create SPLC/white sjw porn. They still can't get Mississippi lol

The flag we're all familiar with is the battle flag used by General Lee, not the official flag of the confederacy. Nevertheless, all confederate flags represent treason against the united states. That's what the confederacy was by any textbook definition........this "symbol of heritage" is really just a symbol of treason against the United States. If you're cool with that, then whatever. Fly it in your yard. However, do those wanting the flags to remain on public property not see the irony behind flying a rebel flag along side the US flag that the confederacy fought so hard to escape from?

This. Although I'd prefer the communities that still fly it on public lands come to that conclusion on their own instead of through coercion. Same with confederate statues.

As long as you're good with it being something that is voted on, I'm good. Like with Mississippi, if they wanted it off their state flag there wouldn't have been such strong support for it in the 2000s when they last voted. The alt left is really adamant on this issue, they even are going after Florida and Alabama for featuring the saint andrews cross, which they consider too close to the battle flag. Also Arkansas gets some heat for its distant similarities. If you give these people an inch they will take a mile and a half ime.

If a state wants to fly it, I'm all about state's rights. Although on that note, it is a good thing the Constitution forbids slavery least Mississippi would probably try and reinstitute it.

This thread is old but now even more relevant.

My opinion: If a flag offends you; grow up and stop whining.

You can burn my flag, doesn't offend me.

I bet a lot of people who are in favor of the Confederate flag are against the NFL protests. The symbol doesnt offend me but peoples stupidity does.

A quick glance at Florida state history shows that I can't comment, since I'm finding different reasons why the red saltire was added in 1900. I am going to go out on a limb and assume it wasn't because of Irish pride though.

Alabama's flag history seems more clearly linked to the Confederacy, but that's Alabama for you.

The red saltire on Florida's flag is a vestige of the flag of the Spanish Empire.

I think Mississippi is the last state that still has Confederate symbolism on it's state flag.

Well he was a Kentucky native. Ironically he was born about a hundred miles away from Lincoln's birthplace.

The alt left got the Arkansas, Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi flag taken down from the halls of congress bc they said they represent white supremacy. I believe they have tried for Tennessee as well. Not sure why Bama chose the St. Andrew's Cross but they could have gone with the confederate flag if they had wanted to when they first made it. I wonder why they haven't gone after the current GA flag as it's the actual flag of the confederacy.

There is no Confederate symbolism on the flags of Arkansas and Tennessee. The Arkansas flag has a diamond on it because it's only state where diamonds have been found and the Tennessee flag has a circle with three stars in it symbolizing the state's three distinct regions.

I 100% agree, but the alt left literally got the Arkansas flag taken down from the halls of congress bc it's too close to the battle flag, in their opinion. That type of power displayed with the current cultural Marxist movement scares the shit out of me ttytt

Well if what you say is true it is ridiculous. Does this look to you like it has any resemblance to Confederate symbolism?

i think we can dispense with the the reds-under-the-beds paranoia... the decision was actually made by one person - the chairwoman of the house administration committee, candice miller who is a republican from michigan.
