Concerned over my kratom usage

I've been taking kratom daily for over a year now.. and my consumption has risen quite a bit. .I take anywhere from 20-30 grams everyday.. if I stop using it I get horrible withdrawal symptoms.. I have withdrawn from Tramadol, oxycodone, and buprenorphine before. .and I can say they are easily on par with the Tramadol withdrawals.. I wonder what possible damage continual kratom use can be doing to my body. I know in moderate amounts it can be even good for u with many benefits.. but I feel I am overshooting by quite a bit here.. I wonder what if any damage to my stomach is happening with the ingestion of massive amounts of ground leaf material everyday.. also if I take too much in a short amount of time.. sometimes I have what I would consider to be minor breathing problems but I don't know if this is just panic or not.. I don't usually have panic attacks unless I smoke too much weed without any alcohol.. but this is pretty much the same feeling. but it starts with me constantly having to clear my throat every few seconds and gradually feels like I'm not getting enough air in. .I use to get the exact same symptoms when I took a LOT of tramadol. when my intake was reaching about 900 mg I would get those exact same symptoms.. anyway.. I do like how kratom has changed my life for the better in a lot of ways.. I am much more tolerable to be around when I am on it., and I am really productive. otherwise I get Nothing done and have little to no energy.. so I am on the Fence about completely quitting.. but I know that I need to at least reduce my intake.. problem is I have little to no self control.. every week i get about 100 grams.. and plan to stretch it out but before I know it.;. I am just about out in 4 days.. and have to endure at least a day of withdrawal before my emergency order comes in.. . Guess I'm looking for a swift Kick in the ass.. and some info on what possible long/short term problems that can occur with this much kratom use?

Worst case scenario some GI issues e.g. Constipation. Any problems breathing are likely unrelated or just all in your head, unless you're talking about getting incredibly high and being on the verge of OD which is very unlikely.

The worst thing that will happen is opioid addiction unless you're getting bad kratom

^How would they know if it was "bad" or not? There have been some reports of liver problems from kratom use. And I think it's presumptuous to assume kratom is so safe, it hasn't really been studied enough yet, especially in chronic high doses.

i think those results in a study in regards to liver damage were faulty and not researched properly. Id like to see the source because i am almost positive kratom is as benign as codeine in terms of physical health.

Ethnopharmacological relevance: Mitragyna speciosa Korth (ketum) is widely used in Malaysia as a medicinal agent for treating diarrhea, worm infestations and also acts as an analgesic and antipyretic.

The aim of the study is to determine the acute toxicity of Mitragyna speciosa Korth standardized methanol extract in vivo in 4-weeks-old Sprague–Dawley rats. Result No mortality was noted after 14 days of treatment. In general, behavior, food and water consumption, hematological studies and organ weights showed no significant changes.

Abstract Ethnopharmacological relevance: Mitragyna speciosa Korth (ketum) is widely used in Malaysia as a medicinal agent for treating diarrhea, worm infestations and also acts as an analgesic and antipyretic. Aim The aim of the study is to determine the acute toxicity of Mitragyna speciosa Korth standardized methanol extract in vivo in 4-weeks-old Sprague–Dawley rats. Methodology Rats were orally administrated single dose of 100, 500 and 1000 mg/kg Mitragyna speciosa Korth standardized methanol extract and the control group received 430 mg/kg of morphine orally. There were 10 rats in each group. All animals were sacrificed after 14 days of treatment. Eight parameters were tested: cage side observation, body weight measurement, food and water consumption, blood pressure, absolute and relative organ weight, hematology, biochemical analysis and histopathology, to look for evidence of toxicity. Result No mortality was noted after 14 days of treatment. In general, behavior, food and water consumption, hematological studies and organ weights showed no significant changes. The standardized methanol extraction of Mitragyna speciosa Korth increased rat blood pressure (systolic: 147.4 ± 1.01, 131.64 ± 4.94 and 137.8 ± 4.46) after an hour of 100, 500 and 1000 mg/kg doses, respectively. Biochemical studies showed significant elevation of ALT, AST, albumin, triglycerides, cholesterol and albumin (p > 0.05), at all levels of doses. But, nephrotoxicity evidenced by elevated creatinine was seen only at a dose of 1000 mg/kg.

Histological examination showed congestion of sinusoids, hemorrhage hepatocytes, fatty change, centrilobular necrosis and increased number of Kuppfer cells in the liver of all Mitragyna speciosa Korth standardized methanol extract treated groups. Conclusion Oral administration of standardized methanolic extraction of Mitragyna speciosa Korth resulted in increasing rat blood pressure after an hour of drug administration. The highest dose of extract also induced acute severe hepatotoxicity and mild nephrotoxicity. However, Mitragyna speciosa Korth shows no effects on body weight, food and water consumption, absolute and relative organ weight and also hematology parameters.

I don't want to sound stupid but, WHAT's Kratom?

Let me Google that for you... (<-link)

Kratom (botanical name: Mitragyna speciosa) is a tree native to Southeast Asia. The leaves of kratom have been used as a herbal drug for many years by the people of Southeast Asia and it has recently gained popularity in the West. It is used as a stimulant (normally at low doses), sedative (normally at higher doses), recreational drug, pain killer, to relieve diarrhea, and to relieve opiate withdrawal symptoms. It is an opioid and it can be addictive and cause physical dependence. There are multiple species which possess slightly different effects.

wow if you withdraw from tramadol don't try any of the harder opiates, you will find that withdrawing from those are a real bitch, I mean heroin, dilaudid, morphine, methadone ect. although I have no clue what tramadol withdraws are like. Vicodin is stronger and it wont even give me a buzz on high doses. Ive tried when my tolerance was real low before my heroin use to get high on tramadol and it never worked even with high doses and I had the brand name, Ultram. Kratom doesn't even seem to ease my withdraws at all. I had to go the sub route. Opiates are a hell of a problem quit while you can.

When I was withdrawing from Suboxone I couldn't sleep right for a month

Look into nmda antagonists and slowly taper your way off of kratom. Your wallet and your brain will thank you.

@Chromophobia: i'd like to see some studies done on actual people rather than rats but thx for the source. I remember a study showing in particular that kratom caused jaundice and some sort of sunken in face look to people (pointing to liver damage) but there were flaws to that study, i just can't remember the study in particular but remember it being debunked somewhere. Even the rats, taking kratom extract didn't fair too badly lol, i imagine the doses were substantially higher than a human would take, especially if that human was just using plain old leaf.

I haven't seen any good studies on kratom in humans, but I have seen medical case reports of liver problems in people who had taken no other drugs and had no other explanation for the liver problems.

Sorry dude that's all I could find.

I can say that my liver does hurt a bit more when i use Kratom, even less so then meth use. Yes i can feel my liver, it throbs on my side and in my knee. Fatty liver they say but apparently safe according to my doctor who claimed his yellow skin was from carrots, funny enough. But it responds to alcohol use and other things. No lies. I trust my liver in this regard but the intensity of increased response indicates only caution and not panic for Kratom.
