= bad idea.

I'm working on a theory that my bad trip on mushrooms back in June happened because I spent the whole day to that point playing Halo: Reach with my friends. I notice that prolonged computer use, especially with high-definition games, alters concentration, mood and general state of mind. Shame for me because I'm more or less addicted to it. I now stay fresh of screens for at least a day before taking any substance. Thoughts And Feedback?

I always find my head is incredibly sore after tripping hard and watching stuff on my computer. But this may just be from high visual tripping. My last 32mg 2C-T-7 trip left my head throbbing but my eyes were mostly on my screen for the duration of the trip. It was a real waste because the parts I wasn't watching TV were in-fuckin-tense.

I don't really see how using a computer impacts a psychedelic trip. Some might argue that violent games lead to increased negativity but I find that a bit farfetched. I think you have a bad trip because you are feeling unhappy, anxious, worried before you trip, which then amplifies it. That or you've taken too much of a substance you are unfamiliar with. I've never understood why people try an lay blame on an external influence in these situations when the truth reason is underlying inner stress... If you take the reason for a bad trip out of your own hands, it leads to an increased chance of occurring; I've noticed a few people who keep benzos on them "just in case" often find themselves 'needing' to use them.

Well, I know that some people can get pretty pissed off when they play video games and that right there is a good reason to not go on a trip after video games. People cane really get into different emotional states when they play video games and like I previously said, that can make a bad time for a trip. Thats my thoughts.

FPS games are not the best mindset for a trip--- kill or be killed, doesn't exactly leave you in a good mood. Sounds like OP already discovered the answer to his question

Yeah read "Metaprogramming in the Human Bio-computer" by John Lilly for one particularly extreme view of the human mind AS a biological computer. He came to write this after doing experiments in an isolation tank along with LSD and ketamine. I find after reading this book, I can see how because I spend so much of my time on the computer parts of me actually start to become like the computer. I know that I have enhanced my small degree of natural synesthesia by spending time tripping or even just smoking weed and listening to music while staring at the spectrogram in foobar2000. I don't think this is like natural synaesthesia where the person has a hard-wiring between sensory areas in the brain. I literally think of my ears as a sound input, and try to correlate the pitch of the sounds to where the visual data appears on the screen, with what is left over from psychedelic visuals. So when I listen to music without the computer-derived visual stimulus of the spectrogram graph, I am going based on memory of what the sound "looks like" and using my brain and HPPD to drive the "program"-I have to admit it's mentally taxing and can get irritating when there are unpleasant noises in my environment, but that's just one way in which looking at my brain as a biological computer has related to psychedelics.

TL;DR: Spending too much time listening to Aphex and staring at a spectrogram while tipping face can lead to seeing/hearing some funky shit.

all I know, is some of the best, most hilarious trips of my life happened while playing Battlefield 1942 on PC years ago when it first came out. driving around in circles, blaring the horn, waving my head around(in game lol) freaking out made for some of the most intense trip-laughing ive experienced.

I have to disagree with your first point willow, computers/computer games definitely influence trips! That said, I do agree that I can't see how it could cause a bad trip, but the thing they've influenced the most for me is visuals.

The worst is tripping after an entire day playing Minecraft. Every time I've done this all my regular closed eye visuals were replaced with blocks, and more blocks 8(

Personally I use computers a lot and haven't noticed it giving me any bad trips, however I don't generally feel comfortable using my computer (or TVs or other technology for that matter) while I'm actually tripping.

I love counter strike when I'm tripping balls.

I also don't think I could trip without TV's, computers etc. A lot of my friends are the opposite so I tend to trip alone.

A lot of people also say they find computers confusing when tripping and will forget how to use them. I may have some difficulties using them occasionally but I find it comforting to have around.

Jake, on a related note, do you tend to use computers a lot when you're sober? I'm wondering if the reason I can't stand them while tripping is because I spend so much time on them and my brain wants me to do something different.

Some of my friends who don't get on their computers much can be absorbed in the internet for hours when they trip. For me the best is to go out and take a walk in nature, something I sadly do too rarely otherwise!

Nope, I am pretty much on this bastard every waking hour.

I do tend to do different things than normal on here though. I usually have music I havent heard before as well as movies I havent seen to watch.

when i play a game before bed i can often still see the game a bit like a cev to much porn before bed does this too if i've snortin
also when i playing some intense game i get so pumped its like i'm buzzin on a stim.

lol i had a k hole once where i was on facebook all day then in my hole I was in facebook,
All i could see was the search bar,
Lmfaoooooooooooooooo

and one time i was buzzin the screen re ordered its self again watchin porn the red progress bar under the movie ran down the side of the movie and there was three of them and they were bent out the rest of screen was psychedelic colours trying to operate the mouse was useless

I can definitely see how games can influence the visuals of a trip, but not neccesarily just using a computer for things besides games. That said, I don't enjoy using a computer when tripping on pretty everything except DXM. I enjoy reading when I'm on DXM and have enjoyed the analytical side of it, especially when reading opions (such as those found on forums...). On other substances, the computer doesn't make sense or becomes harder to use, as if it doing so is so intuitive that actively focusing on browsing my music folders and choosing a song becomes an epic task which never seems to end.

Yeah that's true, it depends on what you're doing of course, I could imagine if you sit in one program all the time, or see on particular desktop background, it might reappear in your dreams, trip, and general sub-conscious, but if you use computers all the time chances are most of the stuff is just getting filtered out of your brain straight away since it's nothing new.

Oh on dissociatives I enjoy computers very much, psychedelics I despise them. Strange, I wonder why.

if im coding,
making music,
or performing live,
just a touch of psychedelics has helped me produce the most interesting results that are probably examples of my most creative work.

too much (fine line!) psychedelics with any of the above has probably produced examples of my worst work though!

however,
any other time spent on a computer tripping,
is a waste of time IMHO

i want to get back to nature with my trip,
ideally, mountains, drums, fire dancing, and my mates

I truely think you are on to something, Flickering.

I believe that any type of broadcasted media, whether it be games or tv, keeps us from a higher level of thought processing by essentially keeping our brain activity at a low rpm (so to speak). I mean, let's face it, tv is insulting to our brain activity. Call me crazy, but those electromagnetic waves spewing from yours and everyone else's screen disrupt our consciousness and and moods alike. I think that mixing the media component out of what is our 'sanctioned playpen' of reality coupled with psychedelics, you get an extreme level of dissonance. I can relate this to forcing the square block through the star hole, it is rather difficult to make happen, IMO.

I think you guys are watching the wrong stuff and playing the wrong games.

Documentaries are like getting in touch with nature all over the world from a very comfortable space and a brilliant thing to watch for any trip. It can leave you intelligently discussing many thing you saw through out the rest of the trip and other tangents from those discussions. You might also learn too ;). Alternatively you can put your own music on, that is great for Planet Earth or Baraka
