Technology computer question; Solved-ish? Re Adobe Acrobat reader

Ill make this short and sweet as possible

on the 27th I have to be at a place with some documentation for legal reasons (Im not in trouble this time I sware lol) -- One of said documents appears I can only get electronically and they say I must have adobe acrobat reader. ( I dont want or really know how to work adobe acrobat reader and there are plenty of things that do the same for free online )

This is the wording they used--
"Must be retrieved using a desktop or laptop computer with Adobe Acrobat Reader due to security features applied to the document. Mobile device and tablet access to the Download Center is blocked."

Should I go ahead and pay adobe and spend the next week trying to cancel the subscription after using it once --- or would any pdf file converter thing work?

The crux of the issue is I do not have enough on the damn credit card to pay for acrobat TWICE -- the other document also costs about 10 bucks, whether I can afford both once is gunna be a tight squeeze ......

For those of you unfamiliar (or didnt notice) I am basically tech illiterate; but also fairly desperate lol

Any advice GREATLY APPRECIATED (There wonderful bot customer service will not engage with you until you pay them -- not a great sign lol)

-- was about to pay them 8 dollars and have no idea at all exactly what I was suppose to gain (file converter which is free) and the effort of canceling in 7 days or getting hooked into a YEAR LONG SUBSCRIPTION at $25 a month.....Brutal.

Couldnt preview how to cancel it either! alright lol im a click that link and it will prolly solve all my problems if not --- the questions will get dumber probably. ( Believe it or not )

Ill drop the cryptic act now that I dont gotta enter CC numbers lol I have a drivers test on the 27th and they rigid AF about forms of ID

--- ehh shit not compatible with chrome --- trying again on the 'studio computer' / virus ridden computer. (Dont download beats kids -- or stream movies, idk which was worse lol)

Super fun it seems to stop at 90% installed it just bails on me every time?

Download worked, computer should be able to handle it fine lol --- any theories on this one before I dive into there tutorials?

That is twice you have led me directly to water and I prolly fumbled it --- my dumb ass is a guest because I forgot my unlock computer password -- IDK if I can get to administrator; It is a DAMN GOOD PLAN THOUGH.

Guessing my own password shouldnt be too hard -- Thank you again -- I reward or punish you by logging into the studio computer -- now it will show me logged in always if I remember lol. (No good deed)

If this doesnt work I will try that -- I think I can get to administrator!

ehh gunna see if "Browser compatibility is the problem -- unlikely but one I could solve lol)

Now I think I just set it to use acrobat reader to default pdf opener and I should be good!

So when I get those docs emailed acrobat should automatically fire them up ? I dont know if that is rhetorical or not -- by my logic it would be. Computers never seize to surprise me though!

Cross your fingers ill let ya'll know how it works out --- I may have had my share of butting heads with tech for the day though. I can only imagine my anger when it somehow still doesnt work lol

Try it in the morning and consider today a win!

Run as Administrator isn't required and often raises other installation conflicts. Very rarely a software requires this unless they're modifing certain OS's dll's. Never do this again, I know I said what I said a few months ago, related to the "PC" crews around here but I think many forget this very aspect.
Acrobat requires subscription only if you plan onto editing PDF's. Which you do not, and if you ever do, there's workaround, most likely these dudes are influenced by chinese, not many companies uses Acrobat anymore, isn't considered enterprise but rather small office(~100) employees max and if ever, in schools environment. :)

Next time you ever install do not install embedded bundle packs.
McAfee often is like a virus that stays even after a drive reformat. Nobody uses it anyway, unless you turn on grandma 200EUR OEM laptop from Asus/HP and see all the bloat delivered by the company.
 
Its a "The university works with acrobat" thing -- they have since they started handing out laptops in the late 90s. Probably signed a contract longer than acrobat's lifespan and now are married to em -- therefore "Only acrobat" will work
(The guy that invented starbucks came out of this uni -- they scammers through and through lol)

Haha the university president was a Dr. Wong for awhile (Not saying there is any connection to the chinese there, I looked into it like 0 -- know the guy was a GIANT DICK though lol)

Nope no editing --- I got it downloaded on the big computer -- wouldnt work on chromeOS? W/E long as it works or im gunna be in a crazy tight spot.

I dont feel like finding out tonight, cuz nothing computers ever seems to work for me. (Which I know is MOSTLY my fault) lol

Worked like a swiss watch -- well actually I havent opened the pdf yet cuz I cannot print from here nor carry my PC with me .....

They gave me a link too though so hopefully I can just pull that up on the laptop and if that fails ask them to use there computer (Which I gotta use anyways) to open my transcripts. (May be a tough sell at the DMV, luckily we are in a pretty small town - they were chill last time I was there during COVID)

Little less so for jury duty when I had no phone for awhile and got selected despite writing things like. Latin? Legalese? I always joke I want my nickname to be 'the perjurer" -- Haha I thought adding that as an aka to get out of jury duty may backfire down the road though.

nicknames "Johnny hungcourt" "The perjuror" sometimes they call me 'the fifth dont recall' ....
 
Run As Admin isn't required in a second terms of availability, rarely while being in a enterprise environment certain changes can be made through it only because it manages all others accounts stored in a user profile, exception being TrustedInstaller obviously, since TI owms a lot of pre-loaded libraries of DLL's, so the administrator is restricted by the OS, or aka SYSTEM/TrustedInstaller.

And usually in a home environment, you're the administrator but very much limited compared to customized as it exists within enterprise outdoors.

therefore, by running as admin here, you do not gain anything but rarely depending on the catered software, you could brick your pc because of certain ownership mistakes. So user X admin Y, now both are admin, user X is not the owner anymore as both the software and OS expected, and these two asks who Y is, and from here you can run into issuesz big time. ;)
 
Good news --- shitty news

Passed the drivers test -- look out on those roads

Kitten skittered out the door on the way back in -- around 5 hours ago --- saw her an hour ago and she came right up to the entrance and than backed off and went under the porch --- so hopefully with vigilance I get her back

we do have coyotes though --- one stressful shit after then next -- such is life. no rest for the wicked etc

edit saw her at the porch again directly after posting be back soon
 
VICTORY -- ID, Driving, AND RECOVERED KITTEN. 6 and a half hours of literal catcalling -- gunna be tough to restore any street cred after wandering up and down the block doing the "Here kitty kitty kitty" in the high pitched voice thing for that many hours.

Fck my street cred I STILL HAVE ME KITTEN

Now I shall probably sleep for the first time in 3 days ish lol
