i got of rehab about 4 weeks ago, and i was eating a lot while i was there. i gained like 11 pounds. but since i have been out now i have almost 0 appetite, i can go days with just eating like 2 yogurts and i wont be hungry. im not trying not to eat i have just not been hungry.

what im worried about is in December, i used stupidly shared a needle with someone. but while in rehab they said they would test me for HIV, they got blood samples from me. but they do that with everyone. so i hope they tested mine like they said they would. and they never said anything to me about my test coming up positive so do you think they forgot to test it? or am i safe?

i have also not been sleeping well could that be the cause? i have also been feeling depressed lately.

so what do you think, and by the way im 16 and male if that helps

So many things can cause a lack of appetite. The stomach has more serotonin receptors than the brain and so how you feel has a big impact on digestion/appetite. If you are concerned about the needle sharing then go get tested again, but depression and lack of sleep can certainly cause it.

When I'm feeling depressed I don't want to eat. I really had to force it for a few days, everything just felt like cardboard.

i have a lot of problems with eating. i;m borderline anorexic, and can go a fewdays without eating much at all. 1-2 small meals a day isn't uncommon for me. its like i'll be hungry but have to appetite. for me, its caused by 2 things for the most part: depression and lack of exercise. when i'm depressed i never feel like eating. instead of eating i'll lay around and sleep. this habit goes hand in hand with not exercising.

45minutes of exercise does wonders for my appetite. if i go on a run or lift weights and keep my heart rate up i always get extremely hungry about 30 mins after. being active and productive forces me to eat so i have energy to complete the shit i need to do as well.

I think the anxiety of not knowing your results might be playing with your appetite as well. Call the place up and find out what your results were.

Hope you start to feel better. Oh, and congrats on your rehab. Well done to you.

Were they giving you any meds in rehab that you aren't getting now or vise versa? I know sometimes after I stop using I completely lose the desire to eat which is extremely rare for me...

Or it's very likely that it's from depression...in rehab you had help, support, other people to relate to, etc. and going from that to a lot less can be an extreme change and even stressful and that is very likely to cause appetite loss. Not to mention your body is still trying to adjust back to normal from being clean from drugs and that could be a big part of it.

I agree that stress and anxiety can play huge tricks on your appetite. When I was hospitalized I went the entire 8 days without eating a solid meal, but what helped me get at least a little bit of the nutrition and carbs I needed was drinking ensure for breakfast/lunch/dinner. It's important to at the very least to get some nutrition into your body, especially if you're having mood disorders. I wish you the best and hope everything works out for you.

Depression, stress and anxiety can all reduce appetite quite abit. If you are unsure about the HIV test (though im sure they would have notified you had you turned up positive) go and get tested again hell it's not a bad idea anyway.

If the appetite loss remains after this and you are still depressed and not sleeping a medication to help this would not be a bad idea. Some meds that help depression also have the added benefit of increasing appetite.
