Comparison of GABA acting depressants

benzos, barbs, quaaludes, alcohol, placidyl, ghb/gbl, chloral hydrate...

all of this have a similar mechanism of action, but some seem to have more abuse potiential than others and users report similar but different effects.

i say good barbs(secobarbital, tuinal), methaqualone(quaaludes), ghb/gbl, and alcohol feel exactly the same.

benzos are similar, but less impairing and feel more "selective".

i plain just don't really care for the "z-drugs"...

what is your thoughts on the best GABA acting sedative?

*i have tried most of these, i'm just curious on what others say, as GABAgenic sedatives are some of the most varied drugs in terms of "liking" and subjective effects(euphoria, anxiety relief, hypnotic effects, intoxicating effects, etc.).
 
First off, benzodiazepines are not selective. They work on all the GABA subunits (a1, a2, a3, a5). The GABA subunits are what determine the effects of each GABAgenic drugs. Those that have more effect on the GABA alpha1 and alpha5 subunits are more sedative/hypnotic. Those that have more action on the alpha2 and alpha3 are more responsible for the anxiolytic effects. Also those that have powerful effect on the alpha2 subunit tend to have potent muscle relaxant effects. The Z-Drugs are selective to only the alpha1 subunit. They have no effect on any of the other subunits.
 
I don't find benzo's similar to alcohol at all.
My experience from alprazolem and clonazepam is that I find them very relaxing, low body load, they help with mental clarity, I sleep fine from them (in combination w/ trazadone) no hangover effects, no grogginess in the morning

whereas with alcohol, in moderation, the depression effects are less pleasant. dizziness, body load, feeling like I just don't want to move, dehydration, and any induced sleep is just not great sleep.
 
I like zopiclone, it has a good effect on me and due to its short half-life (5-6h) I'm not groggy in the morning.
 
Tried Seconal a couple times and its alright, a more powerful Temazepam in my opinion. GHB is one of the few drugs I've tried before. Never had the chance. Alcohol I could do without. I used to drink a lot but gave it up. Benzodiazepines I've had a 10 year struggle with...just about off them. Down to 4mg Diazepam, all the way down from 8mg Clonazepam or 8mg Alprazolam switch-off but tapered when I was on the Clonazepam.

StaySedated - How old are you? Where did you get quaaludes? I question anybody who has tried them and the authenticity of the quaaludes. Most nowadays are just large doses of Diazepam.

i'm 25 years old, the lude's were authentic as i first tried them when i lived in south africa for a year(legit Rx'ed sedative/hypnotic over there under the name Mandrax, pretty common and inexpensive on the street with prices as low as U.S.$3 for one pill). i heard stories over there that they were sometimes smoked but i never tried that or even saw it.

now i live in los angeles, ca. and higher class dealers sell authentic quaaludes for about $7-$15 a pill. it is true that fake quaaludes exist, but the ones i get are the real deal. in santa monica(near los angeles), real illegalily imported methaqualone shipments are often seized by the DEA. real ludes come from quality dealers and are mostly found in wealthy areas(clubs in beverly hills, hollywood, etc.). "methaqualone" sold in the valley, poor areas, or by shady small time dealers is usually diazepam, and those lucky enough to have a source for real ludes can easily tell the difference like an experienced xtc user can tell the difference between real mdma and bunk pills(mcpp, speed, etc,).
 
also, you can't get real quaaludes from "hook ups" from high school who called himself a "money making drug dealer" by selling weed, low quality xtc, and his mom's leftover vicodins. dealers who sell real methaqualone cater to a different consumer(rich young party hounds who get into the most exclusive clubs on the scene, not 15-17 year old ravers or potheads who enjoys the occasional oxy when he can afford it) and the legit dealers often do quite well(my dealer just bought a new porsche 911 CASH).
 
I'm a bit ignorant to the actual neurochemistry for cannabis (I know a bit about most other drugs though). So it may not be a GABAergic sedative, but its worth mentioning:

strong indica.
Something like anative plant right from the Pakistan, Afganistan area. Just pure potent indica. sedative in a different manner perhaps than say benzos or alcohol, but a sedative none the less

completely different chem and not gabaergic, strong indicas are sedating but id say in a completely different way to booze/benzos/gbl

i know its called "liquid xtc" but i think it feels a lot like alcohol(maybe a little "cleaner" feeling and slightly more euphoric, but still extremely similar to booze imo).

to me, ghb doesn't come close to mdma or heroin, or a mix of the two.

well i guess everybody responds differently to the same drug, as many people LOVE somas and i think they're worthless for recreational use.
