im trying out Zyprexa (olanzepine) atm
seems to give me a mild hangover but nothing to bad and ive got more o an appetite
i think i found seroquel more sedating
is it try that seroquel doesnt start to block dopamine unless u take 200mg or more?

im just curious of what ppls different experiences with antipsychotics are?
side effects, effectivness, sedation. etc

Although I myself am on Seroquel, I think Zyprexa is the better one for most people - unfortunately I'm not one of those people. Seroquel is way too sedating for me. I take 100 mg at bedtime and wake up every morning with a hangover. But it does its job better than Zyprexa - for me at least.

Have you tried risperidone (Risperdal)? That's another good one I hear. More sedating than Zyprexa, but less than Seroquel.

Little factoid: Olanzapine (Zyprexa) is a thienobenzodiazepine (a benzo) in the same family as brotizolam and etizolam.

Unfortunately the only antipsychotic I have experience with is Seroquel as well, and even taking 50mg before bedtime results in me feeling really hungover and still sedated/cloudy-headed in the morning. It's useful for sleeping, coming down off uppers and (in very small doses) potentiating opiates, but that's debatable.

It's also helpful for opioid withdrawal.

I've used promethazine extensively, which is technically an antipsychotic but it's quite weak compared to other first and second-generation antipsychotics.

i found a chart on the internet comparing the sedation of different antipsychotics

risperadol had one star (least sedating) seroquel & zyprexa had 2 stars & clozapine had 4 stars.... i'll try to find the link again but riperadol is the least sedating.

btw i dont get much of a hangover from zyprexa but i only take 10mg

At very low doses (<25 mg), quetiapine acts primarily as a histamine receptor blocker (antihistamine) and α1-adrenergic blocker. When the dose is increased quetiapine activates adrenergic system and binds strongly to serotonin receptors and autoreceptors. At high doses (over 250 mg) quetiapine starts blocking significant amounts of dopamine receptors.[16][17] Use of low-dose Quetiapine (<150mg/day) is not recommended except temporarily during drug titration period (less than 30 days).[18]

deoes anyone know why it isnt recommened to use less than 150mg/day for more than a month? (It doesnt make any sense when higher doses are prescribed.

Is there anyone out there who has been taking less than 150mg for more than a month?
