Here's my story, brief version. Was put on 10mg Valium daily for levator ani syndrome. I lowered my dose to 5mg for maintenance. I got a really bad episode of the muscle spams about 2.5 months ago and took 100mg and did that for a couple of days. Then lowered to 40mg. Then saw doctor who told me he won't prescribe Vals anymore and it is clear that I'm addicted to them. He tapered me from 40-0 in less than 2 weeks. I'm on day 6 without and am starting to have withdrawal (?) symptoms: stomach issues, shakiness inside, anxiety, headache, confusion. Anyone else have detoxed from a lower dose taken for a long period of time? Thank you!

I've come off higher irregular dose for a shorter period of time (3 & 1/2 Years)

Them symptoms lasted for around 1 - 2 Months and then slowly and very gradually began to subside... Then I foolishly relapsed after around 3 Months clean and it's set me back a little, I'm now 9 days clean again but the symptoms are milder this time, I also relapsed on Opiates at the same time, so some of what I'm feeling are maybe crosssover symptoms.

^immodium will really help with the diarehha! i have never been through benzo WD, but i am currently in opiate withdrawal and i know how it feels to be in withdrawal! benzo withdrawal is certainly more intense, and i think your doctor is naive or just plain stupid. 40mg(im having trouble understanding which dose you are at?? 90mg? 5mg??) to nothing in 2 weeks is wayyyy tooo fast!!! he should have moved you down 5mg every 2 weeks, then at around 10-15mg, move you down 2.5 every two weeks, then once you are at 2.5mg you can either jump off, or take 2.5mg every OTHER day for 2-3weeks then jump off...

nothing will totally help you withdrawal symptoms like a GABAergic other than pregablin or gabapentin. these two medications are essential for coming off opiates or benzos. they almost completely remove all withdrawal symptoms, physical and psychologically, quite effectively! other than that, you will just have to deal with the symptoms such as utilizing a sedating anti-histamine (trazadone, diphenhydramine, hydroxyzine, ect..) for sleep. in addition, marijuana could help with aboth physical and mental aspects depending on how you react to marijuana. another great tool you could use is baclofen or phenibut. these are both GABA-B agonists, and should help by relaxing muscles, providing sedation/anxiolysis, ect..

definitely stay away from alcohol though as it will exacerbate WD symptoms on the comedown! good luck, withdrawals in general blow; but benzo WD is no joke! Wd from a hefty benzo habit is probably the worst of the worst! if you get through this though, you will be a much stronger individual, and you will be able to accomplish anything! most people say withdrawaling from moderate-large opiate, benzo or alcohol abuse is one of the hardest tasks to successfully accomplish without relapsing. i say progress is progress; even if you relapse, you shouldnt get discouraged. you can do this, self-confidence and moral support is important for the next few months as sobriety is not easy. however, i think the greatest advantage you can give yourself would be to view this as positive as possible. try to look for the silver-lining here; doing so is difficult especially with anxiety/depression but have faith! having an optimistic outlook goes a lonnggg way; positivity seems cheasy, but it isnt and really works, at least for me.

good luck

Thank you, laC!! I agree, it was too quick. I had no idea until after I started reading through these posts.

Wow, your doctor is a cunt. You should file a complaint. Coming off of long-term benzos in such a short period of time can cause irreversible neurological damage. If it were me, I'd go to the ER and have them start a PROPER taper!

So far, I'm doing ok. I'm still having some WD symptoms, the shakes have begun and I feel like I have fleas on me. :-/

I'm also trying not to substitute a drug for this. I've quit alcohol too and definitely no other drugs. I read about Phenibut and how it can also be addictive and hard to quit. So, I'll be doing supplements and lots of water.

I see my doctor again on Friday, I'll be sure to tell him that this wean was too fast.

The feeling of fleas/Bugs crawling under the skin is quite a common symptom, to be fair the list of symptoms linked to Benzo withdrawal is almost endless, it seems to effect every fibre of our being in some way or another.

If you ever check out Benzobudddies.org (That may get removed so you can PM for the web address if needs be) there are people on there who are super sensitive or have just scared themselves into believing they can't quit the Benzos. I mean there are people who have been on 2mg, or 1mg or even 0.5mg Diazepam or even less for Months and Months! (I know at those doses they are given the Diazepam in liquid form so they can titrate very slightly)

I really do feel sorry for those people.

Well, I know what you are going through. I used Valium to taper down from a 10 mg day Xanax for 4 years. I was on the taper for about 8 months and got impatient. Jumped off the taper at 5 mg Valium. I don't want to scare you but I wanna be honest. It took me about 3 months to get my head right again. Keep doing healthy things, exercise as much as you can. I can't say for sure but I don't think you are at risk for seizure. You'll make it through ok. I can honestly say stopping benzos was difficult but it's one of my best accomplishments in life. Good luck to you sir.

Thank you for your replies. I'll look into Kava. I remember using that a long time ago to help with quitting other drugs. I've heard it could take months. I hope it's not the case here. Ugh!!!

However long it takes to quit the aforementioned drug, just remember: progress...is progress! You can totally do this. And most people would have given up by now. Valium is one of the hardest drugs to quit, and you're doing spectacular at it/
