We are evidence that God exists. Catholic doctrine teaches that we are made in the image of God, and I believe that is true. We are an incredibly complex machine. For me, it is impossible to believe that such a machine as the human body has no creator. The laws of nature are complex and amazing, making it difficult for me to believe that there isn’t a higher intelligent being who conceived how everything works. The fact that trees produce fruits that sustain humans and other creatures. Consider this: Creation A is a tree, which produces Creation B, a fruit, to sustain another creation. There has to be an intelligent being who thought of and designed such a system. For me, it is impossible not to believe that there is a higher power behind it all.
Another topic, controversial perhaps, that I believe provides a great deal of evidence for God and the Fall of Adam and Eve is the differences among human races. People don’t want to talk about these subjects because we are too attached to our bodies, feelings, and emotions. The way the Jews behave, for example, how God had to send His Son specifically as a Jew to guide them and redeem the human race, and the consequences we still see today of denying Jesus as the savior. The differences in physical appearance, intelligence, how it all influence to the development of different civilizations. To me, these things point toward that something went wrong. Something beyond our material realm influenced and affected humanity.
The story of Adam and Eve makes a great deal of sense in this context. So does the Catholic understanding of Jesus as the New Adam and the Virgin Mary as the New Eve. The pursuit of holiness, and the development of beautiful and advanced civilizations. I see a connection between strong Catholic societies to a heavenly realm. The willingness to become a saint, to practice virtue, and to make sacrifices for others produce extraordinary fruits in society. The accounts of saints whose bodies remain incorrupt, the reports of miraculous fragrances associated with them, the countless miracles, and the many other unexplained phenomena, all add to evidence of God’s existence.
I have also lived through several rather supernatural experiences that convinced me there is absolutely no way they were coincidences. Why he doesn’t intervene directly?, why people suffer more than others? I don’t know. It’s a mystery like so many other things in life.
