I have been taking xanax recreationally for about a week now and I was wondering if I should taper down now even though I have a good amount left? I want to reduce the withdraw as much as possible.

Some info: I have always liked taking xanax to relax and sleep but I never took them consistently. I have a high tolerance (up to 8mg a day I know its stupid). I have a few 1 mgs left and a few bars left should i split the dosage for a few days till im down to nothing again? Will this prevent withdraws? I have had withdraws from opiates before and they suck ass so any help will be appreciated.

Also I relized that taking these all the time is really fucking my body up so im trying to get clean for good. thanks in advance. Also have bad sleeping problems and my dick doctor wont prescribe me anything safer so that is also the reason i turned to xanax

i dnt think you would have any withdrawls after a week of taking xanax. 8mg a day is alot though so maybe someone with more experience on the subject should let you know forsure.

Taking that particular benzo for that amount of time in doeses as high as 8mg a day, you are in for a rouch 2-5 days once you run out. If you want to minimize the unavoidable misery of benzo withdrawl, break up however much xanex you have to last you 3 doses a day for however many days you want your ween off to last. If you want these small dose to live up to their full potential, you can potentiate them by taking enzyme inhibitors-chemicals that can be easily found in foods or store bought supplements that can slow down how fast your body turns alprozolam into some worthless, piece of shit chemical that youll excrete in your piss (inactive metabolite)-or by changing how much/what you eat to make the stomach favorable for its absorbtion.

IF you need additional details, post to let me know and ill be specific

Sincerely,

It's only a week, I don't see an issue, if you think there is use what you have left and taper your dose down until there's no more. I agree with the above poster and ween yourself off. Also if you are only using it for recreation, I would avoid it unless you want an actual anxiety issue which is way worse than not using Xanax for fun. Good luck!

The best thing to do IMO if you know you are going to have no xanax left soon is to quit as fast as possible now since you have only been using a week, and then take a week off. After that I would just try to use on occasions. The best advice for any recreational drug user is to use on occasions, not daily. Of course that is very hard to follow when you have the drugs in your possession and you are sitting home in the company of your television set.

fyi, bergamottin, a cyp3a4 inhibitor in grape fruit juices, along with Querciten, acyp3a4 inhibitor found in small amounts in green tea, can increase the effectiveness of alprozolam. Granted, you would have to drink alot of grapefruit or potent green tea to see a massive effect), but consistently drinking that shit on the days your weening realy make it stay at peak blood levels longer and increases the overall duration. Youll feel the difference.

Also, if you are really determined to avoid unpleasentness, hold in your piss for a little bit longer than you normaly would. Im not certain, but pretty sure, the small amount of unmetabolized alprozolam in your urine (which MIGHT be alot more than normal if you take the inhibitors) can be reabsorbed in your body.

When i take vyvance, I notice that if i dont resist the urge to piss in the morning, ill crash early in the day.

Thank you I plan i start to tapering down today. I figured yesterday would be my last day of taking it in my normal full dose. Does it matter what type of grapefruit juice or is it any?

^ White grapefruit juice.

Also, what you could do is stop all intakes now, and see how it goes. If really you're feeling bad in say 3 or 4 hours, dose a little bit (say 1mg, or 1.5, or 2mg etc.), and then redose a little bit everytime you feel bad. With some luck, you won't need to redose at all, and then if you need to redose you'll have some to do it.

I'd try just stopping the use. As it has only been a week, EVEN with your high tolerance, w/d shouldn't be too horrible. If you do find discomfort maybe take a very small dose of xanax for like 2 days and then drop off. I wouldn't take xanax for much longer esp at 8mg or you will no DOUBT experience a horrible w/d.

One week of usage, even with doses at 8mg, should cause no or very little withdrawal symptoms. Tapering shouldn't really be necessary. If you do happen to feel anxious or jittery than just take 1mg and it should calm you down. Save the rest for occasional use and not streaks.

Im guessing that some people are much more susceptable to withdrawl then others. After I, for example, consumed 10 mg of xanex during a two day binge, I was left a semi-suicidal zombie craving benzos like crazy for three days straight. Running out, even after only two days of using, was horrible and I wish i would saved a dose to taper down on.

definately taper down... i have found xanax is so easy to get a likin for, even after just a few days of heavy use i would be feeling it..

Are you joking? Week of xanax use and you ask for tapering? Haha this must be a troll.

I was thinking the same thing. You'd possibly be tapering for as long you took it. Withdrawals could be worse because you will then have been on it longer. I think just quitting would be fine and *if* you feel withdrawals than take just one pill but of the lowest dose possible.

Yea so i stopped tappering and kept taking it. Now I have a big prob I am going to need professional help this world sucks. withdraws are horrible and i cant stop taking them at low doses because it just doesnt do it. Im up to like 10mgs a day and i took 6mgs today to see if i could go down and im still going insane. Little advice for eberyone STAY AWAY FROM BENZOS!!!!

Oh yea grapefruit juice does shit

It's really weird how different we all are.
I took 2-4 mg klonopin for a few months and stopped after that. I felt bad for a few days that's all. A week of xanax is nothing.
Some advice from me.
-Take a SSRI in the meantime but you need to wait a few weeks before they work. With SSRI's you can experience withdrawal symptoms too but not that bad. They can help with anxiety.
-Switch to a longer acting benzo like valium. I believe 1mg xanax = 10 mg valium so tapering off is easier.
-Take some tylenol to manage the headaches that often come.

..but a week of xanax is nothing. I don't see problems with that.

There is no way that you could be physically addicted after this amount of time. It sounds to me like you may have a legit anxiety disorder, especially if you are this worried while actually on xanax. I recommend seeing an actual doctor. If that is not an option for you, then just stop. You do not need to taper off for the physical withdrawals, as they will be minimal to none. In fact, if you tapered from the doses you are taking you would really just be prolonging the time you are using and increasing the likelyhood that you actually become dependant.
