Does anyone have any experience with the combination? I'm currently on Morphine ER 30mg 3x Daily and Oxycodone 5mg 3x Daily. I've found the Oxycodone isn't working well anymore and is causing me the agitation and unrest I see other people reporting.

I asked my doctor if we could do a rotation, and he wants to do the Morphine IR in place of the Oxycodone. The Morphine ER works...okay, but only paired with something, and I'm hesitant to up the dosage to 60mg because when I did in the past, it made me very, very foggy and slow to react. I wasn't a fan of that as I want to be able to complete every day tasks when I take my pain meds.

I guess I'm just concerned that my somewhat tolerance for the ER will make the IR a pointless venture, and my doctor is very afraid of switching to very different medications. He's never brought up Oxycodone ER, Fentanyl, Hydrocodone, or anything outside of the meds I've taken for pain management every time.

morphine is the gold standard.
it's pretty common in cancer, aids, terminal patients to use both extended release for the
chronic pain, and instant release for breakthrough pain.
i'd say it's definitely worth a shot, especially if you find oxy too stimulating..
you just never know..it could turn out in your favor..
treating pain is such a crapshoot-
so many physicians are too intimated to perform it correctly.
I would definitely be concerned about a dr. who seemed scared to rx anything new, though.
your concerns are valid and should be voiced to him/her first and clearly.

It's working quite well actually, this is my second day replacing the Oxycodone and I can definitely feel it more, and I'm not agitated like I was either.

I take 200mg Morphine Sulfate ER and 30mg of Oxycodone IR.
I usally take half of the 200 and a whole 30mg the morphine halflife is much longer than the oxy so that gives you great pain relieve. Obviously your tolerance isn't the same as mine but I have great results with this combination. So try finding a good dose with the two.
