Suboxone contains the drug naloxone, which is used to reverse the effects of an opiate overdose....

naloxone is an opioid inverse agonist drug.

I was just wondering, if you realized you had done too big of a shot, or taken too many pills, could you place a suboxone under your tongue to reverse the chance of a massive overdose??

Like say, i started to feel a little too dizzy/uncoordinatedm could i just pop a sub under my tongue and assure my safety??

:?:?:?:?:?:?:?
I realize it would probably precipitate withdrawl symptoms, but this would only be used in emergency situations, where withdrawls would be a welcomed sight....

thank you for your input

There are a miltitude of threads out there that address this question...the one that comes to mind is titled "Using Suboxone like Narcan?" You can search for it in the box on the top right hand of the screen.

Basically, some people swear this has worked for them - but as the naloxone is inactive in suboxone due to bupe's higher binding affinity and the much higher amount of bupe per pill than naloxone, you would be using bupe to combat an OD, not naloxone.

If you or somone you're with suspects they have overdosed please call emergency medical professionals. We are lucky to have a drug that can effectively save us from an overdose if administered correctly and given soon enough. Please be careful and don't be reckless assuming a suboxone will save you.

I swear there was a thread on this like a week ago hah. Oh well.

Apparently this has worked for some people in the past, but I definitely wouldn't count on it, especially if you're taking it sublingually, since it would take too long to act. You'd have a better chance if you injected it, but even so.
Honestly anyone who takes strong opiates regularly should just keep naloxone with them, I think you can get it at needle exchanges in most places.

Actually, when you are in deep withdrawls, the tablets take effect sublingually at such a fast rate, that they actually seem to possibly be useful, in overdose situations

In my experience, you put the pill under your tongue, and within 30 seconds it will have disolved quite a bit, and within 2-3 minutes tremors subside, muscles relax, your mind is at ease.....

Subutex works amazingly fast, thats what made me think about this.....

And if thats really true about bupenorphine binding to the receptors better than naloxone??
Will naloxone knock opiates off the receptors ?
