Colorado: Pro-pot group aims at state law in '06

Texas has actually been discussing decriminalizing marijuana. I think it's ridiculous that they impose a limit on the amount of marijuana one can possess. It's either harmful to society or it isn't there's no way that 28.5 grammes of weed is doing damage while 28.4 is not. You could stock pile 80,000 gallons of alcohol in your house and I really doubt there's a law against it. However I do not know for certain that there is not.

The actions of marijuana and alcohol are different as well. Alcohol is an intoxicant while marijuana is a drug. They're highly different and in current society alcohol plays much less important of a role than it did in ancient human history.

^i agree that the limit is silly but it's simply a matter of taking one step at a time so people can see that the sky won't start falling when we start decriminalizing or legalizing

btw, an intoxicant is a drug that intoxicates you. both marijuana and alcohol are drugs and both are intoxicants (not that i'm denying that they are vastly different drugs)

Rhode Island just legalized medical marijuana. The Rhode Island House over-rided the governors veto...sweet.

qwe… it was kind of semantics but it's an important point that alcohol's action is one of poisoning the body. I relate intoxicant to toxic and poisonous not solely mental alteration. My understanding is that the subjective positive effects are caused by the brain responding to a toxin and not an agonist/antagonist relationship with neurotransmitters.

For example tonight I was trying to relate how different Opium is than Heroin to a friend who latched onto them being at the same level. People need to approach each situation for what it is and not compare it to something they know which has little or no bearing on the situation. In comparing weed to alcohol there is a huge disparity in the damage that is done to the user and society.

I realize people are going for what is possible now and it's a goal based on realistic policy instead of idealistic principles, but I still think truth needs to be included in the discussion.

Baby steps, people. Putting weed at almost the same legality as alcohol is a prime position for legalization later. Mj use may go up in every age bracket, but I bet it will shift towards the older, more responsible age groups, which will make pot-smokers look better to the general non-pot-smoking public. Actions speak louder than words kind of thing.

I think what the guy's doing is awesome. Plus, the dude's 23, that's commendable in itself. You can bitch all you want, but I don't see any of you guys doing what he's done. Myself included, but I rarely smoke. If there were 49 other similar movements, think how much faster national law could change.

No hate to anyone in particular, just a thought.
