Okay. So I was an iv heroin user for 6 months, I quit and have been on 60 mg of methadone for about 2 months. The clinic I am at is beginning to be a real inconvenience. They are taking their time to begin the 30 day detox I requested. So, I'm considering going cold turkey. Does anyone know how bad the withdraws will be or how long they will last? I have found different answers and wanna better know what the majority says. Please help me if you can. Thanks.

I would wait for the clinic-even if they took their good old time, over cold turkey detox from methadone. I'm sure you would be sorry if you quit the place, got putrid withdrawals, while stuck with no where to turn to feel better.

Indescribable torture is the best way to define cold turkey methadone detox; especially after 6 months of use.

i Personally was on methadone for about 2 months (100mg) on top of using and i went cold turkey. I think personally the main thing with cold turkey is you hype yourself up for how bad it is going to be. Just look at it as a jail sentance, not how long you been in and sick but more how long you got to go until you are free. 2 weeks and you are fine but you have to seperate yourself in the long run from everything and everyone whom you used to use with. That is key because the ones you associate with will only bring you back into it. It's inevitable. Sometimes you just got to let peeps go and you find out who your true people are. It's really not that bad. Don't get me wrong detox sucks and i wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy, but it isnt permanent and you'll make it. try and focus on one thing that gets better everyday, such as "oh my nose isn't running as bad today, or i don't shake as much as i was yesterday" 15 days and your good to go. the first week is the hardest. If you can make it to day 5, you are golden. I think when you just suck it up and fight it like a man, next time you want to use you tend to remember it and dread it. you tend to play the whole tape out in your head first and it makes it much easier to say no. Methadone is just a crutch and you wont dread it. plus 30days detox takes a lot longer, maybe not as painful but your coming off slowly until the end when still, you have slight withdrawel. where if you just flush it right out in a week youll feel renewed. victorious, ya know? Fight it man. Just take up your sword and go to war with it. pm if you need any support or someone to talk to. you'll be ok mate
