Okay, if somebody could help me out with a fairly stupid question i have, that would be great. I have been using a lot of ethnobotanicals lately, e.g. Kratom, Kava-kava, lsa, Valerian root, etc. Some of these require me to either do a CWE, or filter the contents through a coffee filter.

Now to the main point. I am not experienced with coffee filters in any other way than making coffee with them. I was doing an extraction of Morning Glory seeds yesterday. I ground the seeds to a powder with a coffee grinder, put the powder in small mason jars with water, shook them up thoroughly, and let them sit for about 2 hours each. I then took 2 fresh mason jars, small ones, that hold about 200 ml of water each, put coffee filters over them and put them in place with rubber bands, and poured the contents into the coffee filters to be filtered.

The coffee filters filtered about 5 ml of liquid through each, then apparently got clogged after about 20 mins or something, and completely took the filtration to a halt. I had 3 jars filtering, and only got about 15 ml of real filtered liquid. The same thing happened when i tried to filter kava powder through a coffee filter.

So heres my question: Wtf am i doing wrong? :o:X:p

if you r using paper filters which i am sure u r u will be changing filters often doing it like that i would try to prefilter with a metal reusable filter first.
