Opioids codeine liquid

I've been looking on the internet and cannot find the exact info I need, and it's not on the Rx bottle either! My daughter has a history of chest problems (colds, bronchitis, chronic congestion, asthma and pneumonia to name a few) and she's only 7 yrs old. I went to her doctor for a checkup after her most recent cold and asked the Dr. for some Rx cough syrup as the OTC stuff wasn't doing the usual trick and she was getting no sleep at night. The Dr said she needed codeine to stop the cough, help her sleep, and dry up the excessive mucous. She also Rxed her some nasal spray. So the Dr scripts her Tylenol 3 liquid instead of Rx cough syrup! Never saw that one coming! The dosage instructions are to give her 5ml of medicine every 6 hours. My question is, how much codeine and how much Tylenol are in that 5ml of liquid? All I can find online is the amount in tablets, not the liquid. Also, between the nasal spray, which is a steroid, and the codeine, something is causing her to stay awake instead of fall asleep. Can codeine cause sleeplessness instead of making you drowsy, or is it the steroid based nasal spray causing this? I give her meds to her before bedtime, but if I can figure out which one is causing her to stay awake, I can give that one to her in the morning instead

She is also ADHD, but she takes her Concerta first thing in the morning, only once a day.

You need to call the pharmacy and ask. If this wasn't your 7 year old daughter we were talking about, I would try and advise you, but this is clearly something you should take up with the proper authority.

Is her ADHD really bad?? concerta at age 7? I know young kids are prescribed stimulants all the time but do the benefits FAR outweigh the risks? I'm pretty sure they've proven stimulants can stunt your growth especially at a young age. Of course this is also something you should talk to her doctor about.

I would think the codeine would make her sleepy and the steroids are better suited to be taken in the morning. Also the ADHD meds could be causing insomnia. Have you spoken with her doctor about this? Does the Tylenol have caffiene in it? If it does that could also be the problem. Again I would reccomend speaking with the physician.

I dont know about dosages in the liquid sorry.

Thanks for the reply I'm just looking for what how many mg of codeine and Tylenol are in the 5ml dose. I guess I could just call the pharmacy, but I find it weird that it's not listed on the bottle. And yes her ADHD is very bad. My son is 15 and they are so similar in habits and medical conditions it isn't even funny. I've already been through all of this with him, so she's going to get the help she needs earlier than he did. She also has been diagnosed with a reading and speech disability and is starting counseling to over come an OCD disorder. Sad to have all these problems at 7 She was originally on Vivansse, but that did nothing to help, and the Concerta has shown an unbelievable improvement in school and home.
Also, my son has been on Concerta for 6 years now, and no stunted growth there We all keep a very close eye on growth and weight gain with monthly checks because they can decrease appetite and make you lose weight if not careful, being a stimulant and all.

Where are you located? Why the hell isn't the dosage listed on the bottle? That would be illegal in the USA.

I'm sorry to hear about that. What all is written on the bottle?

Did the symptoms of OCD and reading/speech disorders begin before or after treatment with stimulants?

I'm glad the concerta seems to be working for her. It's sooooo hard to find the right medication with learning disabilities.

I'm fairly sure what you have is Tylenol with Codeine oral solution -- 120 mg of acetaminophen and 12.5 mg of codeine phosphate per 5 mL (available only in generic form).

But please don't dose it until you have verified this.

I live in the USA. In Michigan to be more specific. The bottle says" Acetaminophen-codeine elixir, Generic for: Tylenol w/codeine. Orange Yellow. lblr: pharmaceu assoc. Qty:240. Give 5 milliliters by mouth every 6 hours if needed for 10 days. And then it's just the patients, doctors, and pharmacies info. Nothing about strength. I would expect it to say something like 30/160 or like my oxycodones that say percs 10/325. I thought it was weird.

I have a feeling that the prescription label is covering what the original manufacturer labeled, as it is required by law for this information to be on the bottle.

Call the pharmacy, or if that's somehow not an option, take a picture of the bottle as it is right now and write down what it says on it, especially the prescription number and dosing instructions, then try peeling the pharmacy's label off the bottle to see what the pharmaceutical company wrote on the bottle. Either way, you should dose according to the physicians orders.
